Data Compression Apps

Hey guys, was wondering if anybody has had success using data compression apps on their phone to reduce data usage? I'm considering trying it, but not sure as to whether it affects any aspect of the phone's performance or otherwise. I'd appreciate some insight if anybody has tried this before.

A lot of the stuff you download these days is compressed anyway - for general web browsing you'd probably be best off with Opera as that supports web page acceleration where it's all proxied from elsewhere.

Ah didn't realize that. That's interesting... I still may try some out to see how it works out in comparison. Didn't know that Opera was optimized in that way as well, I'll try comparing using that browser as well. Thanks for the reply.

I tried Onavo on Android for a while, and whilst it work I dont think it made a huge difference.

This app works by creating a VPN to their server and routing all your data to them. Their server retrieves the page you request, compress it and send the smaller, compressed version to you.

for me, there is a security question there, can you trust them with passwords, banking websites etc?

in the end I took it off and used chrome as normal - personally I dont think the compression is worth it
