    Help Apple TV1 and XBMC

    Hi guys,

I just recently received an Apple TV1 and want to put XBMC on it. After some looking around. It seems that OpenELEC is the software to install.

I've downloaded the software (image and USB image tool) to create the USB key on a Windows PC but I'm stuck at step 1!! I'll be damned if I can make the bloody USB key.

So, I'm after some advice........a) what is the best method/package to use to get XBMC on my ATV1....and 2) if it is OpenELEC, how the fuck do I create this damn USB key?!?

You'll need to Jailbreak it first. Find out what ios it's on then research jailbreaking that ios.

I'd recommend Crytalbuntu over OpenElec. I'm running it on my ATV 1 and it feels more responsive than OpenElec and I've had zero crashes. When I had OpenElec on it used to freeze quite often. If you haven't already got one you should pick up a Broadcom BCM970015 Crystal HD card. This allows the box to play HD quality files without breaking into a sweat.

The Crystalbuntu site has a step by step guide to setting it all up. You do not need to jailbreak as such as the installer replaces the apple operating system (Or you can run it from USB but this makes it a little slower). The Apple operating system can be restored from the Crystalbuntu installer if you want it back in the future though.

I have tried installing Crystalbuntu but the downloaded image installer cannot see the formatted USB stick!! Fucking fallen at the first again!

Mate have a look for the xbmchub wizard. That's all you will ever need there is a step by step guide for using that aswell.
