    Advice Office 365

    Good Evening,

I am in a meeting with a client to discuss the merits of Office 365.
They are currently running Windows 7 with Office products installed locally. They have Outlook running on an internal Exchange server 03.
The mailboxes are by in large about 1gb -2gb in size.

Can anyone give me an opinion of the product viability of replacing the existing set-up or is it better to buy an exchange online product and keep the data and office software local based.

    Any advice would be welcomed.

    Thanks
    Neil

In short, a local install is a one off purchase so seeing as they will most likely run Office 2010/2013 for years to come it is more cost effective in the long run to buy the licence. If cash flow is an issue then 365 would help them and as it's sub-based you will be upgraded to the new version when it is released.

It all comes down to individual situations.

    • Do they have all the hardware they need for the upgraded version
    • Do they have internal staff to maintain the servers / exchange
    • Are they in an industry that using modern versions would be an advantage
    • What size business are they?
    • Would they be able to take advantage of Lync and SharePoint
    • Do they use Ipads or windows tablets
    • Do they have the cash available for a one off purchase or would a subscription option be more affordable.

Then you start talking about storage costs, backups, archiving etc etc

Depending on the above answers depends if O365 would be the best option.

As far as costs go, MS have built O365 so that the bundled versions are very cost effective in comparison to the individual products.

Its better to burn out than to fade away...............

there is also a 0365 personal coming out at i think 40 quid a year for two devices which might be ok but if you buy the office it would work out a lot cheaper if its for one machine then 365

You also be aware that Office 365 drives your hardware and software policy as microsoft will only support current -1 on both OS and office version.

This means that it is currently Windows 7 or 8 & Office 2010 & 2013. When they bring out Windows 9 you are in the hands of the gods of Microsoft if they opt to keep support for windows 7 or not!

You may think this is all bollocks but when they last updated the web version of o365 you had to be on IE10 for things like spell check to work! Also, O365 gives you 25gb storgae space but if you are using Office 2007... outlook struggles to cope with mailboxes above 4gb, so again you are forced to upgrade.

Microsoft also quite regularly cunt around with their O365 servers, so if you have a managed internet you keep on having to readjust which cunting servers are completly open for 365

O365 is cheap... and that is purely to force you to keep upgrading hardware and software.... and most importantly I am not sure exactly what happens with o365 on the 29th February?

    Thanks to MsDG

Have you considered going LibreOffice, which is an open-code, freeware program can creates and uses files to/from Word/Excel/PowerPoint, etc.? It has been installed over 25 million times around the world, mostly everywhere else except North America where Microsoft has a stranglehold. It is the successor of OpenOffice and is regularly updated. It is an outstanding product that I use personally and in my training/consulting practice.
