    Default IPhone 5s screen

Ok guys karma has well and truly kicked me in the teeth.
So I laughed at the wife for dropping and smashing her 4s then I agreed to replace the back screen for her.
That was a piece of cake I must add.

On my way home last night I dropped my 5s screen first and it's smashed top corner with 2 massive breaks one to bottom left corner the other right across the screen.

    So here's the question.
How easy is it to replace this screen? Would I be better getting someone to do it for me?
    Are the eBay screens reliable?
Or do I bite the bullet and claim on insurance?

    Thanks in advance

iFixit Guide [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], read through that, then judge for yourself whether you're competent enough to do it is the best bet mate

    Default IPhone 5s screen

If excess is £100 worth claiming as a genuine 5s screen will cost you around £120 just for basic parts and full setup is nearer £200 , any non gen will invalidate any warranty and bear in mind you will still have prob at least 6 month warranty on it

Done about 20 or so of these now and I can say avoid the copy ones they are shite

Also don't break the security if flex as these are coded to the imei and can't be recoded if you do meaning you will lose the finger print security function

If not bothered about screen (personally I would be when bought a 5s) then you can repair for less than £100

    Thanks to Mobileman

What guide didn't show you will also need to transfer the camera lens ring and proximity sensor holder from old screen to new one but don't use super glue as will melt glass and turn it white around those parts , amazing how many if those I see !

    Thanks to Mobileman

It's a minefield. For a time there were second hand genuine iPhone 4/4s assemblies for sale on ebay at the same price as a new third party part so I was advising using those instead but those stocks seem to have dried up now or they are all a poor grade B or even grade C condition.

yep im only touching genuine on 5/5s as all reworked stuff is shite at moment on 4/4s give customers the choice but using trusted suppliers with no quibbling on returns, ebay is just full of fake, reworked and copy at min latest one is gen lcd but it has reworked flexs and copy touch sold as original !

I've had someone tell me recently that the Indian repair place at a local shopping center is doing iphone 4/4s for £20! For that price they have to be separating themselves but I can't see how they are making their time back on such a rate given the labour required. The customer could have been wrong.

cust could be wrong but even if true mate, shite refurb screens cost around £15 in volume then pay labour to fit it and pay business costs, tax, warranty, insurance etc but guess its stll same in PC game also

I dont even deal with public customers other than friends and on here as rest want something for nothing and then moan about it haha

If you want to keep your warranty take it to an apple store and they will swap it for a new one for £209.
