Default Had enough of Firefox. Decent alternative?

It's got too bloated for it's own good and within 15 mins, my screen scrolling/ posting is way too jittery. I guess I've just got used to it from days gone by but it's become a pain shutting down and restarting. What other decent options are out there now with less overhead, import bookmarks and just as importantly, I can add my LastPass sign in info to?

Currently run a dual core 3Ghz setup with 4 gig ram and stacks of swap space on XP so it's not like up to date, but neither is it slow.

    Thanks to burner1

    Also interested:

Firefox - was ok ages ago. Now I seem to find every time I start it, it wants to spend ages failing to update itself, then after a while of using it, it will then crash.

Google - was ok when it first came out. Seems fairly wank now.

IE - Looks like developers are getting fed up of IE not conforming to standards - fed up of stuff that won't work with IE12.

Part of me thinks there must be a conspiracy to make our powerful machines* run slow for trivial tasks like internet usage to force us to buy newer machines that we don't actually need.

    * My ancient desktop could easily be setup as a virtual server with ESXi running multiple servers without problem. It shouldn't be that taxing on the computer to browse the net.

I've noticed if I try to use my bank's online banking in IE In Private mode, I can't even log in. Surely they should be encouraging us to use In Private mode.

Although to be fair, Metro Bank's online banking is pretty poor all round.

I get similar when trying to log in with Barclays mate. Fucks me off to a blank page unless I turn 'browser security' to off.

I don't think they actually give a fuck about security as long as the blame can be pushed to the customer. Just for an experiment, I managed to log on to Metro Bank's site, and from another PC record the details entered to log on. Also seen the same "random" 3 out of 8 numbers coming up when logging in a few times in short succession.

Oops, sorry everyone, I seem to be veering off topic.

    Thanks to Over Carl

For general browsing I use firefox. When using the touchscreen Firefox is slow and tends to render in large steps (pinch to zoom etc). For touchscreen mode I like IE11 as it's fast to render when zooming and not as fiddly due to it being designed for touchscreens, non desktop mode I'm on about.

I don't want to move over to Chrome due to all the data harvesting Google do through it. I don't want to use IE full time either.

All I need is for firefox to add native touchscreen support and I'll be happy.

Have a look at comodo dragon browser, it's a stripped out chrome and very quick, doesn't report to anyone, very secure, I've been using it for the last 9 months with no issues

How about a Google Chrome with a dose of UnChrome?

Looks updated to something else on the Dev's site, but this is what its advertised as -

I dont much care about what Google knows about me anymore. I'm almost certain there are a whole lot worse things others get up to on the internet than I do... and it's not like they are spying on us all individually.

    I use Chrome.

I like my privacy as much as the next man, but it's got to the point where you simply can't completely avoid having targetted ads or tracking and the like. Well.....not without a lot of bother and then half the internet not working. I use a few extensions, like Adblock Plus and Ghostery, which do block a lot of tracking and ad based shit, but even then I sometimes have to disable them to browse some sites without issues.

Fuck it, I say. Tis not like I get up to anything that would warrant snooping in on me personally anyway. Everyone loves scat and animal bumming. Right.........?

    Thanks to CominAtcha

I use Chrome and Opera. The thing I like about Opera is that if I shut down Opera, or the PC, which isn't often, all my tabbed sites are reloaded when I start Opera again so I don't need to bookmark a site because I want to visit it again tomorrow. Great if you are comparing products which you have open on different tabs and you want to shut down and look at them again the next day or so.

Just started Opera on my other PC and here are the 32 tabs of pages I was viewing on bolt the other day when deciding if there was anything worth grabbing. Even with 32 tabs open Opera doesn't fall over and is still fast. (">

    how about a chromium browser,

    https://www.nuget.org/packages/CefSharp.Wpf/1.25.7

usually it is used to embed a browser in a .net application but i have used it to create a standalone exe that browses directly to an intranet page. It could easily be switched to navigate directly to "www.google.com" or even digital-forums. Very lightweight and v.fast

I bet DET can wrap it all up and call it a DF browser

    Thanks to Undertaker

When I used to run untangle boxes, they were pretty effective at blocking ads. However, I can't imagine running one solely for ad blocking, I used it primarily for other things and that was a bonus.

I was a Firefox user a few years ago but as the OP said back in April, it's too bloated and feels shite.

I've been using Chrome ever since. I have a Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 and I like how I can view my bookmarks, page history and even Google search results across all my devices and PC.

I downloaded comodo and have just tried to give it a go as firefox just isn't keeping up with my tabbing culture (I absolutely love firefox but its getting to the point where I can't work properly). However, dragon took about a minute to load google and subsequently any other page I have tried.

Is this teething problems due to a new install (I have no idea why that would be the case) or is dragon just a pile 'o shite?
