Help Places to visit in Southern Italy?

Me and the missus went to Italy last year for our honeymoon. Did Rome, Tuscany, Naples and Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano and Pasteum...

We want to go back either this year or next and want to explore more of the southern Italy, the toe, the heel etc.

    Any recomendations?

    Expensive?
You must have been stitched up.
Loads of great culture and food
Sicily is the obvious place to consider

lol if 2 euros for a huge pizza, and 65 cents for a bottle of Bud is expensive then you were definitely ripped off, because i go every year to visit parents and family and that's all i pay in the bars.

As for places to visit, like zippy says try Sicily and while you're there visit it's many islands, like Lampedusa, Pantelleria, plus lots more, well worth seeing, and a million times better than Florida

Have you been to the islands off Naples, Capri, Ischia? Or although it's not in the south, the island of Elba is stunning, or even Sardinia, which is also a wonderful place to visit.

Must be your memory mate, i go to Naples, obviously the touristy area you will get ripped off as soon as they realise you're foreign, but the rural towns/villages are dirt cheap

Completely agree Florida is shit but everyone else I speak to seems to think it is the best place on earth... only reason I mentioned it tbh
Too many self centered yanks for me ;-)

It was better than when I went to Naples though but that is prolly cos the people I stayed with Just stayed in Central Naples and that was it..... saw nothing of Italy really

You definitely missed out mate if you just stayed in the centre of Naples, i was born and grew up there and hate the central district, it's rough as a bears arse, it wasn't until my parents moved out of the city that i enjoyed my time there, there's so much history to see and places to visit in the surrounding areas.

Florida wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't full of americans

to be honest me and the wife didnt rate Naples that well. a very dirty, smoggy city. I heard there is a recent drive to clean up the city. Hopefully it is true as i believe it has a lot to offer.

Have you ever been to Santa Maria Capua Vetere ilscuro? I went there to visit the arena where spartacus though. The town itself isnt up to much, but the ruins are spectacular and personally i rate the arena better than that of the colleseum in rome. We were the only 2 tourists there, and it was such a surreal moment being in those ruins.

I have been there, it's a stunning place, i've also travelled along the the 'Appian way' where Crassus crucified 6000 of Spartacus's followers.

Yeah the centre of Naples is very rough, it's complicated but politics in Naples are corrupt, like most of Italy to be honest, the city needs sorting out but the people in charge can't make their mind up about anything, so it will be years before anything happens, if it ever does.

An example is:- After the earthquale in 1980 money was set aside to strengthen the foundations of thousands of homes in the surrounding area, our house included, 34 years later they still can't decide how best to distribute this money, it's laughable.

The whole country is wrapped up in red tape, last year i wanted to paint the inside of my house but i first had to get permission from our town hall before i could do it lol, 'how long will this permission take' i asked, 'oh about 2 months' my cousin said ffs, i just painted it anyway.
