    Rant Boycott Mozilla Firefox

A much better reason to boycott Mozilla would be their complete ignorance and lack of respect for free speech. This was a McCarthyite witch hunt to bring down a man who's only crime was a moral objection to gay marriage. He didn't make any homophobic rants, just donate some money to a legal cause he personally believed in. And the snivelling apology by the Mozilla Chaircunt is the icing on the cake for an organisation that has no moral compass.

I'm the most liberal person there is, but the gay lobby need to realise that their lifestyle cannot simply be rammed down people's throats (literally) otherwise there will be a backlash and whatever gains they have made will vanish.

Mozilla boss Brendan Eich resigns after gay marriage storm
By Dave LeeTechnology reporter, BBC News

Brendan Eich is well known for creating the Javascript scripting language

The chief executive of Mozilla - the company best known for its Firefox browser - has stepped down.
Brendan Eich was appointed just last month but came in for heavy criticism for his views on same-sex marriage.
Mozilla's executive chairwoman Mitchell Baker announced the decision in a blog post.

"Mozilla prides itself on being held to a different standard and, this past week, we didn't live up to it," she wrote.
"We know why people are hurt and angry, and they are right: it's because we haven't stayed true to ourselves.
"We didn't act like you'd expect Mozilla to act. We didn't move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. We're sorry. We must do better."
Mr Eich has also stepped down from the board of the Mozilla Foundation, the non-profit organisation which owns the for-profit Mozilla Corporation.

    Angry users

Mr Eich, who co-founded Mozilla and was also the creator of the JavaScript scripting language, made a $1,000 (£600) donation in 2008 in support of Californian anti-gay marriage law Proposition 8.

Although it was initially passed, it was later overturned by the US Supreme Court in 2013.
When the announcement of Mr Eich's appointment was made on 24 March, angry users voiced their opinions on social media. Several high-profile Mozilla employees also weighed in. Three board members also recently resigned - but Mozilla said the events were not linked to Mr Eich.
"The three board members ended their terms before Brendan was publicly announced as CEO for a variety of reasons," Mozilla said in a statement.
"Two had been planning to leave for some time, one since January and one explicitly at the end of the CEO search, regardless of the person selected."

The announcement was made by Mitchell Baker, Mozilla's executive chairwoman

But the most damaging act of protest came via dating website OkCupid.

Users who went to the site using Mozilla's Firefox browser were greeted with a message that read: "Hello there, Mozilla Firefox user. Pardon this interruption of your OkCupid experience.

"Mozilla's new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid."

Mozilla initially defended Mr Eich's appointment, but Ms Baker's blog post announcing the chief executive's departure made apologies for doing so.

"We failed to listen, to engage, and to be guided by our community," she wrote.

She added that any potential replacement for Mr Eich was still being discussed, and that more details would be announced next week.

I would ban Gay Divorce and see how much they want marriage then... (Stole that one).

This is bollocks. This reminds me of Stonewall and the bus adverts they took out 'Some people are Gay, get over it' campaign. More people could not give a flying fuck about Gay this or that, get over that!

I think GTI wants people to boycott it because Mozilla are not allowing freedom of speech.
Wonder if Firefox has an anti-anti-gay feature so you cannot look or be part of it?

He also made donations to religious nutjob and zealot, Pat Buchanan. I'd like to hear GTI thoughts on that.

For me, his political and social values go against everything Mozilla stands for, which is net neutrality and inclusion, not exclusion. Free speech is fine, but for what reasons did he oppose gay marriage in the state of California?

His resignation was inevitable and correct, in my opinion.

    Thanks to CzarJunkie

As long as I can surf the web I really do not care. Hitler could have created it for how much of a fuck I give. After all the internet was created by a bunch of murdering cunts.

Hardly Al Queda is it? Come on mate you're really scraping the barrel here. If I were describe Eich in one word it would be a 'Christian', and from there you can deduce everything.

What bloody business is that of anyone? Freedom of speech, thought and expression as long as it does not transgress the law. I sense you're simply playing devil's advocate, because I can't believe you think he should justify himself to a virtual lynch mob, especially since he's not an elected or public official.

I personally don't want a future where the only people allowed to run companies are bland, cowardly, politically correct drones who believe in anything as opposed to having a strong view on something.

I thought most people stopped using Firefox years ago when it became slow and made surfing the web a pain in the ass.

Another case of a software corporation thinking their views matter if they all went to work dressed as hitler it would make no difference to me if their software was up to scratch.

Mozilla's software has gone to shit in recent years so I wouldn't use there stuff anyway....

But as above if a product is good I couldn't give a shit who wrote it... Apparently Hitler wrote a good book... never read it cos it doesn't interest me.
It would be a bit like refusing to read his book cos of who wrote it..... bet loads on DF have read it !!!

Comodo Dragon is my browser of choice - based on Chromium so effectively has everything that Chrome has but with better security and more privacy from Google.
