    Info Jury Duty

Had a letter through today, been summoned for Jury Duty for the first time in June. Came completely out of the blue never crossed my mind it would happen, its a little bit un nerving to know I could potentially influence the future of a stranger but at the same time where there is a crime there is often a victim I guess. Anyone else had the pleasure?

I was selected just over 10 years ago. Thought Ok this might be cool. Started looking through the local papers to see what trials might be coming up. Saw a few assault ones, some fraud, loads of other ones. Thinking that it would be an experience and having watched court room dramas and the like I thought this would be easy.

Got there and waited in a room for about an hour. Then most of us were called into the court for final selection.

I was the last one selected so others were taken out and the doors were shut.

Judge then gave us the details of what case was being presented.

The prosecution handed out stapled together pages full of black and white pictures..

The accusation was for handling Indecent pictures of underage children..

Worst shock I have ever had. Still freaks me out whenever I think about it. Needless to say He was found guilty.

Dont let this put you off as you need to do it, just hope you dont get this type of case.

Done it about 12 years ago. The full fortnight. Work were spitting lol.
First case lasted about two and a half days. Two Rastafarian pensioners caught with an eighth of resin and up for running a shabeen. We couldn't decide and the judge threw it out but bollocked us for being shit. Second case was a fucking awful, brutal murder of a young woman and I'm not going into it (cunt might be on here now) much but I still think about how someone could do that. Murder weapon and photos.. ugh.
I don't remember what sentence he got but it got nasty in the courtroom.
    Quite an experience.

I got called to do it twice in the space of 3 years

Enjoyed it. First time spent most of the first week honing my pool skills on the free table they had. Only case i can really remember was a guy hired someone(who turned out to be a under cover copper) to break his wife's legs. Think it took us all of 15 minutes to find him guilty.

Never been asked, but as I'm not on a salary, I'm on price. It would hit me in the pocket. Just out of interest, how much can you claim for?

£32.47 a day if it's under 4 hours which can be common

I did it about 12 years ago for 2 weeks, 2 guys were caught collecting a parcel that was full of coca1ne, found not guilty as they said they were asked to pickup a parcel and they never knew the contents, no evidence to prove otherwise. I remember finding myself struggling to stay awake as some of it can be reeeeeeaaaalllllly boring.

My wife did it and was on a case for 3 months..... she loved it, I can't remember the details of hers though.

I'm not too fussed if I get called up again.

Was called up three times and served twice one was a murder+ other bits and the other was general minor crimes. Enjoyed it although at times it was a struggle to stay awake so you should take a good book when waiting for the next case to come in.
