The material on the lamps I have seen is usually very thin and the last thing you want is to burn through them and have to buy some more. I would normally use oxy/acetylene or tig weld something that thin, or maybe use silver solder. May get away with a couple of low power tacks with a mig, preferably with stainless steel mig wire. Of course I'm guessing that the lamp material is much thinner than the pipe you are welding it to. (">

funnily enough its the other way around. the tube thickness is thinner than the lamp material

its gotta be tigged really, much nicer weld, less clean up and much easier to weld thin materials

thanks lads. That's something I don't be able to do so I've contacted the welder I used last time to see how much it will cost.

Still got to cut down the tube to size and drill the holes so until i'm back on the ship and have access to a vice the project is on hold for a bit. Times like this I wish I had a workshop at home

If you're going back to the welder, see if he can tweak it so your tube runs through it straight by lining up the holes. Far more pleasing aesthetically surely.

no need to tweak the tube. I can either add or remove material from one side of the bottom base to level it out. :-)

haha no. Work is on hold until I get back on the ship in 2 weeks. Need a work bench to do some drilling and filing... Don't have the space for one at home. I have found some one to tig weld the small stainless steel lights on though for when I get back quick wont be until mid June. Got two more weeks at home so i'm trying to find a friend with a workshop

Mrs Goldberg will be up for that, you'll have to pad it out a bit to touch the sides though otherwise it will be like stirring custard with a tooth pick

Nah, its scratches up my syphilis... a hand full of warmed lambs liver is the way forward if you are after a really posh wank.... or on the other hand if you want to feel like you are fucking a really dirty disease ridden prossie like your mrs just swap out the liver for a joint of rolled belly pork (leave in the sun for a week first)
