    Default What's your console history?

Looking at the news story about the Atari games buried in the desert jogged my memory about my first console. What was the first console that got you into gaming? I got an Atari 2600 when I was about 5 or 6 (80/81) I think. Vividly remember playing Space Invaders and The Empire Strikes Back on it. I also remember my Dad seeing his arse one day because I wouldn't go out and play on a warm day so he actually got the old black and white telly and put it in the garden so I could get a bit of sun whilst playing. After that I got a Vectrex that came with a different coloured piece of plastic to put over the screen with different games but it was a bit shit as I recall. It's surprising how much detail I can recall even though I was only young. I've never been without a games machine since really, except a brief period in my teens when I discovered booze and fingering girls!

    Thanks to TJB

Back in the olden days when we were all poor up norf, we had to visit relatives in order to play Atari etc.

But my own personal history that I owned is (I will list computers as others have done and in the best order I can):

Grandstand multi game thing from a Car Boot Sale
    Atari 800XL
Zx Spectrum 48k (Hand me down)
    NES
    Gameboy
    Mega Drive
    SNES
    Amiga 500 (with extra memory)
    CD 32
Gameboy Advance (Modded with afterburner light and chip control, we were the only ones supplying them )
    Gameboy Advance Clam Shell
    N64
    Playstation
    Dreamcast
    Xbox
    Nintendo DS
    Wonderswan (Both Colour and B&W)
PSP (One with the battery thingy)
    Gamecube (and Panasonic Q version)
Playstation 2 (for about a week)
Playstation 3 (for about a week)
    Onlive
    Xbox 360 (Various flavours
    Wii

Think that is it... Might have missed one or two.

    Currently have:

    Xbox 360 Slim
    Megadrive with Mega CD 2
    Dreamcast
    SNES (Pal and NTSC)
    N64 (Pal and Jap)
    Gamegadget

Plus the finger is hovering over the buy button for a OUYA
In the olden days you used to lend out your consoles for others. So had Master Systems, Atari Lynx, Game Gears etc.. all pass through but never owned them.
Never had a Saturn but used one. Same again for some other consoles.
    We all make mistakes sometimes

the ones I bought at the time they were current:

    NES > SNES > N64 / Saturn / PS1 > DC / PS2 / GC / Xbox > Wii > X360 / PS3

    And at the same time I had a GBA / GBA SP > DS Phat / DS Lite /DSiXL > 3DS / 3DSXL

Numerous back-up devices went with them too, Super Wild Card, Pro Fighter, Dr V64, CD64 and endless carts for the GBA, DS and now 3DS.

Bought other ones off ebay for retro thrills but I dont really count those in my 'history'.

My first ever games machine was a Binetone 5in1 Pong machine that was given to me by a friend of the family, still had it until I was clearing my mums house last year, although it stopped worked a few years ago.

    My full list:

    Atari 2600
    Vectrex
    Speccy 48k+
    Super Nintendo
    Playstation
    N64
    PS2
    GBA
    Gamecube
    Xbox
    PSP
    Wii
    Xbox 360
    Nintendo DS
    PS3
Another Wii (got rid of the old one)
    Another PSP (mainly for emulators)
    PS4

To be honest I think I actually had the most enjoyment from the Speccy and the original Playstation. I remember me and a mate staying up all night trying to finish Resident Evil in one go. I also used to spend countless afternoons on Cleethorpes seafront in the arcades. I spent a small fortune on Operation Wolf and Outrun (The big hydraulic one).

The SNES was my golden era, but probably only because I had it when I was at the age I had the most interest in gaming and the most spare time, plus at the time there were so many people around me in the same mind set. The PS1 era was a close second as that was just before everyone started getting into serious relationships and throwing out kids.
