Help Recovery from WD External Drive

    Hi

Wonder if someone can advise me the best to proceed with this.

Have been given a 2tb WD External Drive (family friends) which went faulty overnight. Windows now wants to format it (it was used with two windows pcs)

I had Easeus Recovery Software on my own Windows 7 work laptop so I ran that briefly - and it appears everything is still on the drive intact as I managed to recover about 400mb testing it. The software is only trial version and has ran out.

As per usual every precious document and photo is on this bloody drive.

Can someone advise of any free solutions/ software I could try ? There is about 200gig of data on the drive so they have given me a windows 7 desktop to try and recover it to.

    Advice appreciated

    Thanks

    They always are.

I recently had a friend say he'd bought a WD My Cloud drive. His plan was to back everything up to it, all his photos, his business documents, his personal docs etc. as he wanted it on his network and all in one place. Great I thought, he's finally learnt from his mistakes of backing all important data to a usb drive. Then I saw the device, I assumed it was a 2 bay device but no, it's only got one drive. I face palmed and told him when that drive fails, don't come to me with a sob story. I told him to either take it back and buy a 2 bay or buy another one and mirror the devices.

Why are people thick as shit when it comes to backing up their data?
