Possible NAS bay for me

Guy at work has a netgear st101c that he's looking to offload.
Anyone on here have or had any dealings with this particular device? Any pros and cons about it??
Basically it's going to store all my media etc for plex etc.

Readynas devices are pretty good, I have the ultra 4 but not sure about that line mate.

I had a synology up until recently that was a good piece of kit.
This is going to set me back £10 so might just take a punt anyway

£10.. You will piss that away at lunch time! I would be snapping his hands off, even if it was only to utilise it as extra insulation in the loft!

Googling it brings up Netgear's site, Wikipedia, then this thread.

Followed by a review page that pummels it's usefulness into the ground.

Might just be a tenner, but maybe a tenner best spent elsewhere. Not my opinion, but the opinion of others with experience of it.

Plus, being that it's 8 years since release, I'm sure there are a lot better alternatives available (may not even be properly compatible with Windows 7).

Synology kit is wicked too, I supplied 2 Synology NAS drives probably about 3 years ago and they still support it with the newer versions of the OS. I believe Qnap is basically the same but more expensive. Microservers are good too.
