Default BMW in-car sat nav help.

    Hi guys

Visited my brother in the US last week and he has BMW 5 series with built in sat nav.

Now it's at least 5 years old and he mentioned in passing that he doesn't use the sat nav because the maps are out of date and forking out for a new set isn't worth it as he can use google maps on his phone.

I assume if these maps come on a DVD/cd they can be 'downloaded' from various places. Can someone give me a clue of what I should be searching for?

    Thanks
    Mml

From BMW of course but the manufacturers sell these units through various 3rd parties without the BMW brand, Check the Rover user group (I'll have a look when I get a chance) as a guy on there sells many of them for Rover 75 etc (BMW Made vehicle) I reckon the DVDs will be available ok though...

I looked for an updated disc for my skoda sat nav, looked in all the normal places with no luck.
Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

I have updated a mates M3 once (back in say 2007) and it was just a regular DVD... Did take some searching. Always easier when you have the origianl DVD for you can then find out about the manufacturer and contents of the disc

    Thanks to grrrd

Thanks blaggard, I haven't tried contacting him yet. But didn't appreciate that he was in Canada.
