Question Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2 anyone?

Has anyone ordered... or is seriously thinking about ordering the Oculus Dev Kit 2 ?

I wasn't but then I heard the news that the consumer version "should" be ready sometime in 2015... adding "the company would be "disappointed" if the virtual reality headset wasn't on shelves by 2016". All of this makes you wonder if it will be nearly 2 years before the final retail version hits the shops?

The $350 cost of the dev kit doesn't seem bad, but you have to add another $150 for shipping and Vat, so it is actually $500, which I think equates to £300?

I must confess I am tempted, as my favorite game (project cars) supports it.... and the Virtuix Omni treadmill is supposed to be available September too!

.... or of course I could be just be pissing a whole lot of money down the drain.... (again)?

    What are your thoughts?

Oculus Rift "Retail" launch date (2015 - 2016 maybe?)

Virtux Omni Treadmill release date (Sept 2014)

Oculus Rift DK2 Order (released July 2014)... Est cost circa £300 delivered

Virtux Omni Treadmill Order (released Sept 2014)... Est Cost £400 - £500 delivered

(note... cost are somewhat obscure with dollar conversion, shipping and vat. Please let me know if I have cocked any prices up and will update).

I owned the first one. Cancelled the second version order when Facebook bought them out.

Yeah, had a feeling you would reply as I saw your sale of the 1st one. What did you think of the 1st one? Did you sell it because the 2nd one was comming out?

I too was concerned when facebook brought them but after many dev's dropped out over the same concerns they have made strong assurances that FB will not interfere with the OR

Yeah 1st one was fantastic. An amazing experience checking out all the earlier demos and HL2.

Sold mine as I wasn't really getting the most out of it (development wise), plus I need the cash.

I just detest FB as a company which is why I cancelled the v2 order. Am hoping Sony's kit (which has been worked on for as many years as oculus) comes to market as good as and supporting PC. although I doubt the latter.

Yeah... I am with you on the FB thing.

Sadly I read this morning (while researching this topic) that the sony unit is no-where near completion (and futher behind OR) and definately will not be seen (in final form) in 2014
