For all of you that love windows 8... you are wrong, its shit. The proof is in the sales figures which are clear as day.

We had exactly the same thing with Vista, there was always the insistent (and very vocal) users who would say how great it was (until it was fixed with Windows 7).

Even MS are backing out changes as fast as they can so people will actually buy the product. When they get the proper desktop function back (as per below) in the next big update for W8, then probably people will start using it again.

No-one is wrong including yourself. Sales figures don't make something shit or otherwise. It's just opinion. I think iPad/iPhone are shit but the sales figures say otherwise. However, just because sales figures are great doesn't mean it is great to me. I couldn't care less about sales figures to be honest. I buy what I buy because it suits me and is right for me. If it isn't right for other people that doesn't affect my enjoyment. That's the way it should be. But stating something is shit and that it is fact isn't the way it should be. State an opinion by all means but stick to the facts which are it is your opinion, not fact.

ubuntu 14.04 is superb if you bin unity

they must of done something with the kernel and power options as every other os including windows really stressed out the fan and made my laptop really hot

ubuntu running cairo dock and the fan is hardly kicking in and the heat is reduced loads

install infinality as well to improve the fonts

my distro hopping ended after doing this and im talking probably about 30 different distros this year

windows 8 is gone on all my machines now and i have yet to find a program that i cant find an equivalent to in ubuntu

LOL, I knew someone would say this. However, its not opinion, its clear sales figures. Windows 8 sales figures are dire and not really getting much better. FFS, W8.1 users are almost currently the same as Vista users!

Windows 7 has been available for 55 months. This gives it a market share of 1.16% per month it has been released.

Windows 8/8.1 has been available for 19 months. This gives it a market share of 1.8% per month it has been released.

Interpret those figures however you like.

Linux users have been saying that since it was first released. I'd have no problem if Linux became a primary mainstream OS but I'm firmly of the belief that it won't happen. Just my opinion, although it would be quite nice.

Sales figure show customer trends..... we all know customer are fucking idiots !!!!!

Anyway my input is I have installed Win 7 & Win 8 hundreds of times for customers and myself.. one thing I have seen almost 100% of the time is that Win 8 runs much faster on the same hardware than Win 7

Also @CMG there are a lot of shit Win 8 versions available in the usual places that are actual Beta or not what it says on the tin... possibly what you have had if you experienced many problems !
I reckon many of the "downloads" available may have been tainted by M$ themselves..

Also run a web server Using MS Server 2012 which is the server equivalent of Win8 and it has been much smoother than my previous Win 2008 RE 2 setup e.t.c

Windows 7 server (2008R2) is shite. Installed 2012R2 (8.1 server) on our cluster at work and it's been up for 168 days straight since. 2008R2 used to crash once a fortnight.

8 is greater than 7. It's mathematical fact.

Something else worth mentioning is the Win7 is virtually identical to Vista. It wasn't really a new OS but just a marketing ploy to make the masses think that they 'weren't buying the abomination that was Vista'

In my opinion, Ubuntu (or any Linux) is complete and utter shit. I hate it with a passion. The least plug and play OS I ever had the misfortune to experience. I want to just use a PC, not fuck around with getting it to work.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I defo know where you're coming from but I think Linux has it's place. As a desktop PC it's awful an will never replace a Windows box (IMHO). But as an appliance/low power computer device OS it's unbeatable. Routers, phone systems, credit card size media players, mobile phones, set top boxes etc, or anything with a single purpose... imagine needing those types of devices to be capable of running a full blown Windows OS.

Edit: One of my biggest gripes with Linux is when you're having a problem is the snotty nosed help on forums. "Read the man pages" is just about always the first answer to any newbie question posted. When I first started out, I read the man pages, didn't understand/couldn't grasp what it was saying or the documentation was poor. Then I'd post to a forum and 'read the man page' was always the first answer I'd get... Yeah, like that never occurred to me.

It's like when you were at school you got issued with text books. If you didn't get something or needed help you asked questions and you'd get help... The Linux community tends to just tell you to read the text book again. I quickly learnt that the best way to get someone to help you on a Linux forum is to phrase your question like "Linux is shit, I can't do this, Windows is so much better". You'll get 20 people jumping on your thread to prove you wrong then.

They all have their flaws, Vista was the single worst OS in history, ME gave it a good run for its money but thankfully never really got a decent user base. Mac aint what it was but is still the most reliable and best supported OS available, innit. Oh and reasonably priced!

Bit confused where your figures are coming from. Are you saying windows 8 gained 1.8% per month for 19 months? Which would be 34.2%?

Also I think you need to compare market share 6/12 etc months after release for both products.

If you just look from release to today all previous versions of windows will have a smaller increase in market share per month than windows 8.
