Default Rasperberry PI - Openelec ice buffering issues

    Hi Guys,

i bought a pi a while back, and put on xbmc and openelec (3.06 image) and added the usual plugins. I tested this at my sisters place (who then kept the pi!). Didnt have any buffering issues, and it works a dream. She is on sky broadband (not fibre)

I finally got around to replacing it, and built it again using the latest open elec build of 3.2.4. Did the usual pluging - icefilms in particular, and it is buffering all over the place. Can only watch 1-2 minutes before it buffers. I was using an 8gb sd card, and btinfinity.

So, did some research, and tried the usb option - put in a 8gb usb, following the instructions to use that as storage, and even added a advantagesettings.xml file - but still loads of buffering issues. have also tried overclocking, but xbmc responds very quickly, (and now gets very hot!)

So, does anyone out there have btinifinity, and a pi with xmbc installed that doesnt stutter using icefilms.

I need to see if any other plugings buffer as much - will try iplayer next.

    thanks in advance

I have infinity and a pi which I gave my daughter ages ago but I need to reinstall everything on it as all the plugins are broke now (out of date) - I will try and do it next day or two and let you know

bit of an update folks - all down to the sources i was using. been using plenty of other streams in hd flawlessly. 180 upload seems to be the best for me for ice. apparently you can get a premium account for these file uploading accounts, but some people say they dont seem to work.

    anyway, thanks for your help!

99% of buffering on pi or any other platform running xbmc is the source it pulls from. You can make tweaks in advancedsettiings.xml to aid it too. <cachemembuffersize>0</cachemembuffersize>

Hi please note that putting 0 for cachemembuffersize means that XBMC is caching video on the SD card itself and is limited by the amount of free memory on the card. If this is not in the advancedsettings.xml file XBMC uses 20MB by default.

Also look at buffermode settting in advancedsettings.xml. This is the format
    <buffermode>0</buffermode>. 0 is the default

This works in Gotham and it tells XBMC what videos to cache.
    0 means buffer all videos
1 means buffer all videos including local videos
2 buffer only true internet streams
    3 no buffer

    hope this helps
