It is easy to see this as a negative, but it should be seen as a positive move by M$.

Too many keyboard warriors wrote off the console before it was launched as the majority were Bony fans (or Bony bought them as an aggressive marketing ploy). Even when M$ tried to right the wrongs before release they stood no chance and it was seen as a failure in the same peoples eyes. They obviously already had millions of the Kinect manufactured so they had no choice but to bundle them with the machines. Maybe this is why M$ recently dug up the stash of ET games so that they could bury the remaining Kinect they have in stock in place.

There is no denying that the Kinect is a good piece of kit, it just isn't going to be utilised in every single game or for games. You cannot blame M$ for trying something new but maybe they should have looked at Nintendo's long list of additional pieces of hardware that were only ever used for 1 or 2 titles and bombed.

So, M$ are moving on. They have removed the Kinect and have given in to the demands of the gamers and they should be saluted/remembered for this.

The simple issue is that the xbox is being outsold by the PS4, MS arent listening to anyone other than their financial advisers. In the past the console that is flagging in sales at this point always gets a price cut, just as the original xbox (and cube) did when it was selling absolutely fuck all compared to the PS2 and just as the PS3 did when it sold fuck all next to the 360/wii. In the past the manufacturer had to take the hit to help save their console from utter failure and in most cases it worked. In this case they just cut some of the hardware to make it cheaper which to me doesn't really come up with MS smelling of roses.

Possibly, however they were criticised for bundling with the Kinect remember and they had already produced (or had contracts in place to produce) the millions of early consoles with it meaning that they had to bundle it.

Xbox One games may perform better without Kinect requirement

Microsoft's corporate vice president for devices and studios Yusef Mehdi told Polygon last night that now Kinect wouldn't be an integral part of every console, the company could look at ways of using the freed up resources to boost performance elsewhere. "We are in discussions with our game publishers about what we might do in this space and we will have more to talk about soon," he said. "Xbox One has a conservative 10 per cent time-sliced reservation on the GPU for system processing. This is used both for the GPGPU processing for Kinect and for the rendering of concurrent system content such as snap mode," Microsoft's Andrew Goossen previously explained to Eurogamer.

"The current reservation provides strong isolation between the title and the system and simplifies game development - strong isolation means that the system workloads, which are variable, won't perturb the performance of the game rendering. In the future, we plan to open up more options to developers to access this GPU reservation time while maintaining full system functionality."

So essentially, there's potential for games developers to use the power that was previously reserved for the Kinect to make their games look or play even better. Fair trade? That said, Mehdi was quick to assure Polygon that it doesn't mean Microsoft is completely turning its back on the Kinect.

"We remain deeply committed to the Kinect as a core component of a next-generation console," he said. "We think that the bio-metric sign-in, voice controls of the menu, ability to say 'record that' and capture a moment of gameplay are all critical to the experience. We have never wavered from that since the launch."

Titanfall bundles got to £370 with everything in the box - £350 is a joke.

About time they made this decision, it was one of the biggest sticking points for me as I dont want something or someone spying on me fiddling my todger whilst waiting for a game to load (Joke) or was it? You have to laugh at M$ though so much back tracking but as has been mentioned this is a good thing and shows they are listening or are they! I have a funny feeling its not due to the consumers complaining as such its more the consumers not buying it in the first place!

One of the funniest things in gaming history was when Sony were bitch slapping them when they were announcing the PS4 the audience loved it. You just cant trust M$ first the DRM game sharing issues and now this! Whats next not being able to play your games on your console unless you have internet? Oh wait....erm!

Hope I'm adding this link to it the right way? It is good though as is this piss take video about game sharing!

Doesn't bother me - I only use the Kinect for navigation as I don't like talking to the TV and the missus generally shouts and get my character to do wrong stuff lol. Wonder what they are going to do with all the Kinects they will now have stockpiled... I see a £50 Kinect in MS future
