    Default Heart Rate Monitor

Being a little bit of a geek (why else did we join DF?), I am somewhat interested in adding a heart rate monitor to my workouts. I have been running 5k twice a week now for a while. I was interested in knowing what my heart was doing. There is a hr monitor on the treadmill in the gym, but it's a pain in the arse to run with your hands on the monitors.

I originally thought I'd buy the Polar FT7M. Then I saw a Wahoo Blue, then amazon told me that the Wahoo was an older model and sent me to the TICKR.

    So... Any advice?

I wouldn't mind one that can connect to my phone and work with my running apps, such as runkeeper and endomondo - when I want to. Which is probably when I run outside. It would also be cool, if I could add a fitness watch to it at some point too. Which I may prefer instead of having to take my phone.

i have never really used heart rate monitors that connect to phones and stuff but the new samsung gear fit and gear 2 is ment to record heart rate and talk to apps on your phone so might be worth while looking into them

The only smart watch I am interested in is the Moto360. If that did HR, it would be a bonus.... But... I have heard mixed reviews for the HR monitors on your wrist. One of the fitbits does it.

If you run outside the gym get one of the gear in ones with GPS. Will do heart rate and track it/match it to point in your run etc.

I have a garmin Forerunner 110 - cost about £100 with a HRM and GPS watch.
Running without your phone in you pocket is an absolute dream! If you need music get something small and light!

I am on the Garmin Forerunner 405cx with the Heart Rate Monitor. I would say you certainly need to go for a dedicated device and I only have good things to say about the Garmin ones.
The newer Garmin range and Heart Rate Monitors have some fantastic features so it all depends on your budget.

I started on the 5km runs but now I am out three times a week running a minimum of 15km upto around 21km depending on time.
    We all make mistakes sometimes

I'm trying to stick to the 5km runs, just want to up the pace. I am a skinny fella, already. So don't want to lose weight. According to the treadmill, I burn 400 calories, every time I do the 5K.

Probably a bit late now but I would have stumped up the extra for the 210 in case you ever want to use a footpod for running on a treadmill. They aren't that much more than what you've paid, about £120 iirc

is there much difference between the 210 and garmin 220?
I use mapmyrun app on my phone all the time but it is never accurate and kills my phone battery so am looking at a gps with a HRM am also wondering if the garmin app is any good?

The 210 you need to connect to your PC and it's an older design. The 220 has Bluetooth upload via phone etc and a colour screen.

Healthcare technology has evolved over there years. The market is flooded with the wearable gadgets that assist you in getting your health goals achieved in a more convenient way. You are reminded for your workouts, you can check your heart rate, pulse rate on the go, you can track your steps and walk, you can track your daily health data which is accumulated by these devices.

BLE devices plays a major role in getting your health data captured by your device and transferring it your smartphone devices. Now you can have a daily or weekly history of your data organized on your palm. These applications play a major role in reading the data from the bluetooth profile from various devices collecting and organizing them into smartphone for your or your doctor's reference. This can also be synced to the server on a central database to be more organized and in shareable form.

Security is another aspect that needs to be taken care of while dealing with the integration of BLE heartrate, pulse rate monitor and similar type of devices.

We at Canopus deals with a lot of challenges like this and deals with a lot of different BLE healthcare devices and integrate them in the smartphone applications.
