Help T reg corsa. car wont start.

    Guys

Bought my son a little runner for his 18th. all working fine and dandy. then on the weekend it wont start.
key in the ignition and not even a tick over. just no pwer there at all.
trying to lock the car, and the central locking ( from the key in the door lock only) struggles to lock itself.

could it be battery related? I dont have multimeter to test the battery voltage, but could it be the alternator do you think??

Sounds like the battery could have died, can you get it charged to see if it will hold a charge.

Can you get jump leads to see if the car will start then take it for a drive to put some juice back in the battery.

Yup batter is knackered mate. Even with a jumpstart, it'll probably drain out again in a few days. Give it a jump to see if it is the battery, and then get a new one via Eurocarparts and look around for a discount code. I saved £20 last time this wy!

can do, but if the battery has died, will it hold the charge for an actual drive?
I'm thinking its battery ( bare in mind I know feck all about cars) coz doesnt the battery start the car, then the alternator keep the car running, thus keeping the battery charged?

If you can jump start the car you will be able to drive it but you need to work out if its the battery not holding charge or if its the alternator not charging the battery, bit of a chicken/egg thing.

If you are reluctant to waste £35, borrow a battery of a mate to test.

I wouldn't leave it running with the battery unplugged for long as this puts much larger demands than typical on the alternator.

Also I once drove a car without battery and this car had a voltmeter on the dash - the readings were jumping around all over the place which I'm guessing won't be very kind to all the electronics in a car.
