Advice Fitness DVD's (P90X, Insanity, 30 day shred etc)

Has anyone tried any of the DVD fitness programs like P90X?

There are a squillion progress videos on youtube that look promising (assuming a good diet etc). I wondered if anyone here had tried any of them and if so, which was the best one?

I have a long history of knee problems and since my last sports injury (little over a year ago) have piled on some stones. Now I'm a mega fatty and don't have a gym membership so DVD's and 30-day challenges it will be.

I don't just want to lose weight, I want to regain fitness so that I can go back to some sort of regular exercise routine. I am prone to injuries and always do too much too soon so trying to curb that as well.

So, advice? Experiences? Has anyone done one or all that are going? Chilean whatever? T25? Turbo lax? (I tried 30 day shred (long before the weight gain) and it was easy and boring but a fucking shitstain on the knees so I ditched it and just continued at the gym).

P.S. Or maybe a decent starter tabatas/HIIT routine? (There are tonnes on youtube but it would take me so long researching, it would be next year before I started anything)

Fella I did insanity got to day 36 and my knee went.
Like you I have history of knee injuries however I will be restarting it next week with the knee firmly strapped.

It's hard going but I did notice results in the first 10 days.

I've been reading fitness forums and they say insanity was the worst for knees but didn't say why. Is it because of jumping/lunges?

There is loads of jumps, lunges and stretching.
I think it's the volume of them and the pace that doesn't help.

Just go to a circuits / boot camp session at your local Gym. If you're not into building muscle and looking like a marshmallow man with a bronze tan but just want to boost your cardio, general fitness and tone up, a circuits / BC session is fine.

I go to one twice a week at my local Gym. It's not one of these sted head loaded designer gyms with all sorts of fancy machines in a row but a functional gym with decent gear, decent PT's and a kick ass sound system. I pay £25/month for eight 1 hr sessions and every session is a fkin good laugh. Excellent cameraderie, shit gets done and you have a lot more fun than being a cunt in your own home jumping around by yourself and fucking a knee up. .

I've tried working out at home... no motiviation and too easily distracted.

My last gym membership was great. On paper.

Classes were consistently overbooked, a little too easy and inevitably murder on the knees (I never tried spin though, that might have been good). I couldn't afford a PT either and at the times I went to the gym all the machines I wanted were taken. Membership cancelled.

I don't think working out at home is so difficult. I remember an old aerobics VHS of some pensioner woman with a hot bod that we had in the house. Every member of the family used it at one point (I think it still gets used). Exercises were legit and did the job. Tight bod.

Plus, it had the track 'what is love' by thosepeoplethatsungit from the 80's. Cracking tune.

I got to day 80 of p90x before I had surgery and a bunch of other shit go down.

I went from 13.8 stone to 12.5 and I looked good. Its 70% diet and it will fix your posture and a bunch of other things. The main steps on p90x bar the routines are to take the before pics, writing down your reps and commitment.

The first 2 weeks are the hardest but then its smooth sailing. I would highly recommend it to anyone who cant get to a gym.(Nothing beats free weights)

    Thanks to Sanj[UK]

Well done, that's not a bad loss. Partners best friend did a month on P90X and got much fitter and was looking better. Sounds like it might be the one I'll go for (if there are alternative exercises to all the knee stuff).

There is a leg day and jump training. I only used to do 30 minutes on the jump training (plylometrics) but I used to complete all the leg training. The yoga session is 90 minutes but well worth doing for the flexibility.

    Good luck.

It depends on what you are looking for and level of fitness. P90X3 is the 4th set of videos in the series (and I'm assuming they get more challenging as you go along.

    It goes:
    Power 90 (P90)
    Power 90 extreme (P90X)
    P90X2
    P90X3
    Insanity
    Insanity: The asylum

    etc

P90 is supposedly the gateway to P90X and is really basic, assuming your fitness is at 0.

It might be worth trying the P90X fitness test first to tell you which workout vids you should be starting with.

Ive only ever done p90x. P90x2 is suppose to be quite poor compared to the first as lots of extra stuff is needed. I haven't heard anything about number 3 at all.

I didn't bother with the fitness test but I did do the calorie test and I did follow the nutrition guide.

I also did the normal routine and not the hardcore or light versions.
