    Default HDMI 1.4 amp?

    Hi,

I just notice my TV (LG LM960V) has HDMI 1.4 and I've had this TV since release ha. My current Amp is HDMI 1.3, what amp with HDMI 2.0 etcwould you advise I buy to future proof my setup?

I would like to stick with Onkyo if possible.

    Budget £500

TX-NR636 is £499 and HDMI 2.0, I used to have the tx-nr508, but moved to pioneer vsx-923

I have the Onkyo TX-SR 806 , and find these amps get extremely hot when running hdmi's through them ... I also find that the volume is restricted by the software running on these amps .. if I raise the volume to say -22bd's from there on all the way to +9 db's the volume does not increase any further ... this you may think is for speaker protection but to be honest I can still speak to someone in the same room quite comfortably at -22db with my speakers hardly deflecting, connected bi-wire so separate hi's and low's to each speaker

Before the amp above I had the Pioneer VSX 1016v which was a great sounding amp with more power than the Onkyo... the audio was a lot more crisp and punchy and gave power right through the vol scale with no limitations.

Im also looking for a new amp with networking and think the pioneer ranges will be getting my attention but ive also seen a couple of the new Sony STR-DH range that tick quite a few boxes and start at £350 with all the latest gizmo's

As above - onkyo produce top notch kit in your budget range.

Is there anything HDMI 1.4 can do that 1.3 can't?

isnt HMDI 1.4 3D compliant? I had a Denon Amp that was HDMI 1.4 and 3D ready, was an excellent bit of kit and comparable to any Onkyo I have heard.

I have an Onkyo TX-NR1007 its 1.3 HDMI so doesnt detect 3D signals from devices. But if you have a 3d bluray player just put the HDMI direct to the tv for that device and use optical to the amp.

For the difference 1.4 makes to my setup it doesnt warrant spending a fortune just so my 3D films play through it.

    Thanks to AD

I thought 1.4 was 4K ready i.e. upping the resolution from 1080 to 2160 but yeah it basically is its a lot wider and faster

HDMI 1.4 is 4k and full HD 3D but the LG TVs are not full HD 3D. So there is no problem ☺

I just need to switch my media centre and amp around and the problem should be solved as my component cable is to short
