Default Missing quick release plate - alternatives?

Syew, I have a travel tripod that hasn't seen any use for a good few years since the quick release plate was lost during a move.

I have a normal tripod but I find it off-putting carrying such a bulky (although light) thing around. As such, I never take it out with me. My travel tripod, however, is so cute it could neatly fit in a (largeish) handbag and is lighter than the tiniest rock. I've seen a guy on youtube who made one from a wooden block and a quarter-inch screw, but that requires sawing and drilling (drill is broken) and, y'know, effort.

I don't mind effort, I even used toilet duck today (and it wasn't even my turn to clean the toilet!), but I don't fancy buying a new drill to make some shitty block of wood fit my tripod.

Had a look for a replacement on the webs but the only one I found that looked to be the right one was just over £7. Who am I, Bill Gates? I'm not made of money!

Anyone ever been in the same boat?

P.S. For the price of a new release plate I may as well just buy a second hand tripod...

Had a look already on ebay. Tonnes on there but no way of knowing if it would fit the tripod (they certainly aren't universal, which I think they should be).

It's a velbon x-travel. After some columbo-style detective work, found that its a PH-446Q pan head needing a QB-4LC release plate (which turns out to be the one I was looking at anyway). Still have no idea if any alternative plates would fit my model.

Sold by camera king on Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/CameraKing-V.../dp/B00092DZ6U

    Also their website:

Give them a call on 020 8842 3544 to confirm the fitting.

At less than a tenner why go for an alternative? (">

    Thanks to BigBird

£2 alternative and I'd have been cheesin'. Cheers for having a look (and for shoving your wealth in my pauper-like face), found the same thing on ebay for much the same price.

Alas, I will have to bite the £7 bullet!

Is 7 quid a lot? I believe a new plate for my manfrotto tops over 10 but i'd have no probs paying that..

£7 is bugger all frankly.... but if you haven't got it. . .
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .
