The Japanese are kings of horror, unfortunately I'm not interested in foreign horrors but the US remakes of some of the films are ok. The Grudge and The Ring are two examples but don't watch the sequels.

depends on how much of a girl you are.

Most modern Horrors (as far as I am aware) rely on the shit your pants scary moments, which I think wears off after a while.

It can also depend on the situation and quality of your home cinema. Watching something on a 14" portable with the wife asking you if you bought some Chicken for tea every 2 minutes is different from a surround sound big screen experience.

Grudge, ring and white noise ... agree with those too.. I still wont go into the loft after Grudge unless there are 10,000 watts of light burning first!

The remake of Evil Dead was actually pretty good cant remember if it was genuinely scary, as mentioned before you need to be in a dark room with a decent sound system to appreciate it, the only one of the latest lot of horrors I thought was scary was "Sinister" with Ethan Hawke in - the scary dude in that was actually scary.

The conjuring, insidious 1&2 etc all had massive plot loopholes and were all shit in my opinion

I watch so much horrow stuff and b-movie rip offs, i'm pretty de-sensitised to a lot of horror.

I will have a good think about it, but there's not many "really" scary flims I can think of. Plenty of fairly "good" ones IMO.

Fathers Day was quite messed up, but not really scary. The one about the guys filming a ghost hunters type program in a nut house was good, think it had a follow up as well.

Everyone has different ideas of scary!

The Conjuring is good. I also found Sinister to be quite creepy too. Drag me to Hell is good too. Classic Sam Raimi.

What was the point in the doll in the conjuring? did I miss something there? it really annoyed me that it seemed to have nothing to do with the story..

Do adults get truly scared when watching films these days? I would have thought anyone into the genre would have been desensitised years ago. The last time I was truly scared was when I was probably around 8 years old and my dad started letting me watch things like the shining (granny in the bath. Arrrrgh!) and the thing (1982 version).

The only scares you can get these days are jumping out of your skin when some creepy git pops up with a loud noise at an unexpected moment. Cheap scares compared to the atmosphere and general shitty pants-ness when things like exorcist and Omen were released and no one had ever seen anything like it.

Haven't been a huge fan of many modern horror films. Especially stuff like sinister, insidious, the Conjuring etc. There not bad films. Just didn't leave a lasting impression. And that's how i personally judge a film. Did it leave a lasting impression? Be that by great moments or the general feeling you get throughout the film.

With that in mind here are a selection of horror films that have a left a lasting impression on me for one reason or another:

    • The Ring - Not usually a fan of remakes but watching this in the dark, speakers loud and a couple of friends made for good viewing. Genuinely creepy and kept my interest from start to finish.
    • Martyrs - Brutal, disturbing, suspenseful. All by the bucket loads. Bit of a wtf is going on, a bit bizarre but it's a wild ride. Fucked up but not just for the sake of being fucked up. Knida felt like I'd done something bad just watching it!
    • Inside - Pretty similar to martyrs really. Just a bit more personal I suppose.
    • Drag me to hell - Didn't know what to expect when watching this but left pleasantly surprised which is rare. Not a seen a film like it really. Bit of a light hearted yet pretty fucked up horror or something like that.

As I say when I look back these are the ones that come to mind first for one reason or another. I'm sure there are others and I'll chime in if I remember any.

Not many films scare me these days, apart from 3 movies from my childhood.

    Salem's Lot
Sat up one night with baby sitter to watch this and was told it would give me a little scare.
Lol was ok up until the jail scene (shadow jangling keys) then vampires face on the screen,
i shit my pants and think the baby sitter jumped in further in the air than me. I promptly went to bed
and had nightmares for weeks afterwards. (still never watched all this film)

    Stephen Kings IT
Hate CLOWNS and this film made it ten times worse....

    The Manitou
Still never seen all this film but shit me up and made me think bad things whenever i found lump or a bite anywhere on me

    2 Thanks given to demonology
