    Help 4k TV advice

I have the option of getting a new tv through work, I've narrowed it down to two sets, unfortunately the sets on offer are LG but I'm due a new one.

Does anyone here own a 4k tv? What do you think of it? I've read that 4k sets upscale 720 & 1080 images which can be detrimental.

The two sets are LG47LB730V (hd) or LG49UB850V (uhd). They are available at a good price (roughly £300 less than the cheapest price I can find for each), paid over the year with tax and national insurance benefits, also get a free LG G Pad with the 4k set, factoring all this in makes it appealing even though I know they aren't the best sets on the market.

The review I read about the 4k wasn't very flattering (http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/49ub8...1406033786.htm), I'm unable to find a review of the LG47LB730V.

What would you recommend? Get 4k for the sake of it or go for the hd?

    All advice is appreciated, cheers!

Judging by that review I'd steer clear of the 4k set
I'm looking at getting a new set in about 6 months if all things go to plan so hopefully they'll improve alot

I'm not a fan of LG TV's. Probably great if you want a cheap and cheerful one for the bedroom or something but not what I would get to put on the living room wall.

If I was in your shoes, I would see if I could find someone interested in a brand new telly, possibly even let him have the full discount you are receiving but then he pays you in full at the beginning of the deal leaving you cash to spend on anything.

I don't think the time is right to purchase a 4k tv. There is just so little 4k content to feed it with.

What 4K content is there at the moment? I'm guessing its all online only for now. Can Blurays play 4K or will there need to be a new type of player?

Still cant make my mind up on this, the tv I currently use is a 40in samsung, about 5yrs old. Surely one of these would be better than that......

I've ditched the idea of 4k, although 4k netflix would have been nice. What's bugging me is I can't find a single review about any of the TV's in this range (LB730V), reading reviews of older models hasn't put me off entirely, I'm going to look at one in the flesh later to see how it compares.

I really don't care too much about smart features or sound quality,I just want a bigger screen for TV, movies and a spot of gaming.

Thanks for the advice so far, my head (and you guys) are telling me not to bother, my love for a new toy is telling me to go for it.

Buy yourself a Panasonic zt65 . They are end of line and are about half the rrp. That TV is panasonics swan song for plasma, the best tv they could make.
It recently beat several 4k Telly's in a shoot out. Resolution isn't everything

I'm really not a fan of LG TVs, they tend to be the cheapest but quality has always lacked in my opinion.

In an ideal world that's something I'd get, my budget won't stretch that far unfortunately.

I've got a couple of days to make a decision yet, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give it a miss. I'll have a look at one in the flesh at currys or something and make up my mind for sure then.

Ended up getting the 55 inch (non 4k) model, still waiting on delivery.

I've read a couple of reviews (foreign sites using google translate) and checked them out in store, reviews aren't as bad as I expected and when I had a play in store it seemed fine to me. I'll let you know how it is when it gets delivered and i've given it a decent test run.

It's got to be better than my 7 year old samsung i'm currently using.

It was only 5 years old a month ago! Have you been abducted for 2 years?

Ha, I realised I'd had it much longer, been with the girlfriend 6 years and had it before I was with her.
