    Default Amazon Fire Phone

No idea if this will ever hit the UK ut I think it has a couple of really neat features. The most new stuff in a phone for ages.

Firstly the dynamic perspective 3d display, driven by four cameras to determine where your head is. If that works that could make it a very immersive thing to use.

Secondly the firefly app which scans real world items and links to the digital world, such as picking out email addresses, web addresses, item prices etc. very impressive if it actually works.

Price is $649 out of contract which I reckon judging by other Amazon US to UK items will equate to about £589 for 32GB

General specs are similar to those of other phones.

There's a promotional video on the site at amazon.com

    Thoughts ?

Way too expensive for an entry level phone. Also if it's full of Amazon shit like their Tablets then I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

yea the fireOS will be the downfall I think.

Price would obviously be much less on a contract. Will have to wait and see if/when the uk networks get hold of it.

A 32GB iPhone 5S is £629 so I can see what market they're aiming at because as part of their write up they say a 32GB phone for the price of a 16GB

The 3d perspective is a cool thing, but unless there are some useful application written for it it will be another 'Hey look what my phone can do'. reminds me of how excited i was to get the pre-release of the LEAP motion - played with it for about 30 mins and then realised that the whole thing was a gimmick.

Can't see them selling masses of them at £500 + when you can get other similar phones for under £300 but I do think the new features are interesting. Again, all depends what the networks can knock them out at.

The pricing model here is way off.. instead of pitching it nearer to the Nexus, they aspire to iPhone level..

    No way.. i'm out

I think their longer plans are to get people locked into their ecosystem, like Apple have their own money pit with apps, movies, music and books, so do Google and Amazon now. I've got to admit I'm not sure about MS - see they have Xbox Music, I've not used a Windows phone though for years.

It makes you wonder how new starters are going to make it off the ground soon when they're up against the big four here!

There are no new starters any more. They all go Android because it's cheap and easy to implement. Even Amazon is using it, albeit skinned to death.

Think they've just roughly converted $199 into £. $199 is the on contract price though.
