Help End of the road for my Denon AVR-1910?

Woke up this morning, switched the TV on, turned the AMP on... flashing green standby light. Flashes 9 times, then stays solid, but the display remains blank and nothing else happens.

I've reset the Microprocessor - standby button and hold surround A+B buttons. No joy.

I've also been onto Denon who have explained its out of warranty and a repair could cost in the region of £200. It's in 'Protection' mode after my daughter decided to have a little bit of music loader than usual last night with her mates.

Unplugging all cables usually gets it out of protection mode, but not in this case. Denon says it's probably overheated - GREAT!

Anyone got experience of troubleshooting these things? Know where I might obtain a service manual? Know of a reasonably priced repair shop?
I'm not scared of fixing it myself, but need to know where to start!

Mentions of the Amplifier Board needing replacing has been mentioned, but I'm not even sure which one that is... Physically examined all fuses, seem OK, but will check continuity a bit later when I get home.

    Help, as always, massively appreciated.

did you try a processor reset?
could be hold down speaker buttons a & b While turning on, it should reset to default settings(i think thats it for that model)
    worth a shot.

Yeah, tried that. Still no dice. It's the Surround Buttons A+B, then switch on. Denon Tech advised me to do that. Gonna be lifting the lid off it in a minute.

I had to have my Rotel serviced last year, think it cost me £200 for the service and then as soon as it came back and I went to pick it up the guy in the shop offered me £125 for it. He was gutted when I told him where to stick it!

Can't see how that'll help. Can't get it to switch on at all.

This is where I'm at - Lid off, Fuses checked. All fine... so have not done their fucking job right!

Don't even know where to start!

I see what you mean. Took a close-up, but looks fine - Better Angles (click the images for mega definition)

Those thingy's on the heatsink. Maybe, I saw that too, but in 2 minds because of no red light at all (see my YT Video).

I too have seen those videos, but the Front display usually comes on, then goes off a few seconds later, mine doesn't even come on.

It does feel like a power problem. Notice one click when turning on, but no click to initialise itself - which it usually does. Thinking it might be a transformer.

After a hell of a lot of poking and prodding, things with this Denon do not seem to be getting any better, so I've been weighing getting hold a new (or second hand) one that can better handle my 7.1 KEF3005SE Speakers.

I've been looking at the likes of the Yamaha RX-V671. Anyone have a Yamaha and care to comment on how good they are? I'm wanting great sound from my KEFs on a very tight budget (About £200 ish).
Any help on these things hugely appreciated as TBH, I'm clueless. If I could spend a grand on one I would, but I simply cant.

I've had 3 Yamaha AV amps and never had a problem with any of them. The reason I had 3 was due to power increases and connectivity updates etc. Have you tried posting on the Denon or AV forums to see if anyone has had similar problems?

Have you checked all of the KEF's for open/short circuit?

I have the Yam amp and had a similar problem where there was a short in the speaker cables, have you tried turning it on without anything plugged in only mains.

The problem with this Amp is its in Self Protection mode, I've disconnected all speakers and cables and still have the same problem. I'm also considering a Onkyo system depending on which would cope with my KEFs the best.

I've even factory reset it, so something is defo blown. Just dunno what. I've had a quote for repair at £200 and don't seem worth it tbh.

So if one of your KEF's are open circuit it will go into protection mode. Powering it up without a load on the speaker terminals will put it into protection mode... do you have a working pair of speakers to test it with?

Powering it up without any speakers doesn't usually put it into protection mode. As far as I know, all 6 KEFs are fine although now you've said that, I can't be 100% sure. Will pilfer a mates AVR now to check.

Use your meter that's in one of your pictures to check for resistance across the terminals on the back of the speakers. You should be getting roughly 8 Ohms across those terminals.

Your amps protection circuit will do two things, look for excessive current draw and dc offset. Most likely one of the power amp channels is faulty, and you have dc present on the output (which is likely to pop your drive units out of their boxes hence the protection kicking in) . This is not easy to fix and unless you are a skilled electronic engineer with experience of amplifier repair you will struggle. It could be a leaky cap but more likely damaged if you say its been abused a little. its likely to be a blown output or driver transistor if so
Despite their wild power claims most AV amps aren't particularly good in this dept

btw those caps dont look swollen
