Loving the look of oolite, I'm sure I saw that in its very early stages but looks like it has come a long way since.

Elite reboot hits Kickstarter funding target
Elite Dangerous makes its million

THE REBOOTED version of classic PC game Elite has reached its Kickstarter funding target and development will go ahead.
The game has been brought back by David Braben, the man who created it in the first place, and the project to recreate it was funded in a last minute rally.
Funding for the project is due to end this week, but Braben was asking celebrities to tweet about it in the last couple of days. This might have helped, as while it still needed to raise £800,000 this time last week, it has met its £1,250,000 funding goal.
There are still a couple of days during which anyone can pledge money to the project, and as is traditional on Kickstarter anyone that does invest will be rewarded with a backers' package. These range depending on how much supporters invest.
If funding for the game beats its £1,250,000 funding target by a reasonably significant amount, another £250,000, ten more shops will be added to the game and a Mac version will be produced.
If you don't remember Elite, you probably were not around in the nascent days of home, or school, computing. Elite Dangerous will revisit the classic PC game and give it a significant facelift.
As well as looking better, the redeveloped game will be bigger and include more ships, more to do, more freedom and more options. µ

Just read this again on bbc news app. Can't wait.
Used to play on bbc micro at school then had frontier on my Amiga.
I recall spending hour upon hour trading/flying/docking/killing - awesome games.
Never heard of it but it looks sweet!

It does look good, hopefully it will play as awesome as the original.
Shame it's so expensive to play the alpha or beta

looks too much faffing about with controls. You`d have thought they would have invented auto pilot these days
Not impressed
If your not old enough to remember the original Elite brought out some 30 years ago, this broke barriers of computer gaming. If I recollect correctly, when released on the BBC Micro computer it sold one copy per machine a feat that wont be repeated in my view. It also made leaps in computer programming that maximised the little power of the machines available at the time. Anyhow for anyone else who gets the whole concept of Elite it will be an amazing game release and a true classic if the latest beta is to go by.
