Powerline adaptors

I'm hoping to move to a powerline system and was wondering if there is anything to watch out for or any brands/types to avoid.

I would like to start out with something cheap to see if they do what I want and then possibly upgrade in the future.

I see Currys have an own branded pair for £20 or eBuyer have pairs for £15 including delivery such as these...

They do not work in my house as there must be different wiring rings throughout the house as it was extended by the previous owner. So be sure you can return just incase. I set up WWRT repeaters instead.

Do they have to be on the same ring main ? That might scupper it for me as I think we have an upstairs ring and a downstairs ring...

I have two consumer boards in the house.. one for the extension and one for the old house and it works fine between them, so doesn't need to be the same ring or even consumer board!. I also have two different types of TP link adapters and they work seamlessly..

I have three plugs two different brands which work fine together. I was lucky and managed to borrow a set from a friend to test before I bought.

I've used devolo av200 since they came out and never had issue in about 4 years of use other than I spilt bottle wine on one 🙈 after dried it out it's still working with a 4 port switch for my tv setup

the other ones run various pcs in house when can find the av500 at decent price will upgrade past that it's pointless as sure power line only handles speeds upto around 300 mb?

Still great bits of kit and lot more stable than wifi IMO

On my av200 get speeds showing 152-174mb via the included software but don't believe that ,would like to test them to test the true speed if anyone has software to do that

it shouldnt need to be on the same ring for them to work, I use these ones from amazon and have no problems streaming stuff

oh they dont work on extensions if they are surge protected but non surge protected ones or straight in the wall work great!

im not 100% on this but i've read somewhere that some work on different rings and some don't

i think it was an amazon review where someone was complaining about that very issue

I've put solwise plugs in loads of houses and never had an issue. Used both the standard ones and the wifi extenders.

Used them in my house and they work on different ring mains, ie between our extension and the original house wiring.

I've got 3 sets of the TPlink ones, and they work to a fashion, speeds are shite though compared to wired.

Also had 2 fail within a week of each other but to be fair to TPlink they sent out a new set without any bother.

I have those £20 ones and in the first house had a few probs with them losing the link. Turns out it must have been environmental as there in use in the new house and haven't dropped a packet since.
