This statue, by Derbyshire artist Denis O’Connor, is dedicated to the people who built the canals, is situated at the Ribble Link where the new canal leading to the River Ribble joins the old Lancaster Canal at Cottam, near Preston. It's a newly designed statue to replace the Gauging the Ripple statue, and believe it or not, this cost £30,000.

Concerns have been raised after a statue unveiled in a Valleys village was compared to a phallic symbol.
The 40ft statue, which is called the Lady of the Stream, is in Pengam in the Rhymney Valley. It stands on a former ash-tip, which was later reclaimed as a playground and has become run-down in recent years.
The statue depicts a woman watching over children in the area, supposedly in reference to Pengam folklore of youngsters drowning in a stream.
After consulting with local schools and people in the area, the monument was designed with the help of Lewis School Pengam and put in place last week. Caerphilly council sought funding from a landfill tax credit scheme, which provided £30,000 from the Wales Environment Trust to carry out an improvement project, with the grant having to be spent on an art project.
Judith Voyle, of Faraday Drive, Penpedairheol, said she worried about the statue’s safety and echoed the views of many people in the village on the shape of the monument.
She said: “It’s horrendous. People are coming towards it and can’t make out what it is.
“If you’re coming from Penpedairheol, it does look like a penis. It’s only when you come from Bargoed can you see the face of the woman.
“To me, it doesn’t look safe. I lost three members of my family in an accident near this spot after a tree came down on them.
“If they wanted to remember the history of the area, perhaps a water feature or a paddling pool would have been more appropriate so children could learn to swim.”
Councillors Hefin David, Wynne David and Graham Hughes spoke out to make it clear a consultation process was carried out before the statue was put in place.

Coun Hefin David said: “During the consultation process last year, we knocked every door on Cardiff Road – the road facing the statue – and all of the residents who answered the door said they were pleased that something was being done to improve the run-down area. They were aware of the scale and look of the statue.
“The main reason that residents in Cardiff Road supported it was because this area was desperate for development.
“The council will landscape the area around the statue and this work is ongoing.”
Design plans were displayed at Glanynant Memorial Hall at a number of local partnership meetings.
Those consulted said they did not want a seating area which could become a gathering place for youths.
Coun David added: “It was a brave decision of the council to support this statue.
“Our own feelings are that it is a big change to what was there before and it will take some time to get used to.
“Public art is often controversial but if it gets people interested in their area it can’t be all bad.”

Nice pics and it wouldn't bet too bad a statue if it didn't have the tools sticking up from it makes it look like mini sausages and cheese and pineapple sticks :-(
