Default 4G Double Speed from EE

    Anyone have this?

I'm fucking off Sky broadband as it's dogshit slow and I'm not in a fibre area.

So looking to get one of these 4GEE Wifi Boxes for the home. They cost £20 a month for 4GEE Double Speed and you get 15GB Data, throw in the fact I get 10GB on my phone on 4G, that's enough data for me on a monthly basis. I'm paying SDky £15 a month for internet now.

Before I jump in, has anyone used 4GEE Double speed? I'm about half mile from a 4G mast to get pretty decent speeds already on my phone 25mb+

Took the plunge and went for the Huawei E5776 Mobile WiFi device. 24 Months, £20 a month for 15GB of data. I'm planning on using this to replace my home Sky Broadband.

I live in ADSL and have been paying £25 a month for Line rental and Broadband.

Went for the Double speed EE.

Used my phone with it at work this afternoon, really easy to set up, and hit 26meg down and 28 meg up!

Just for reference, my home ADSL Sky Internet hit 5meg down and less than a meg up!

Will do a full review later.

Long term reliability and contention ratios would be my major concern about going down this route. If the mast is blown down in gales, how long before an engineer comes to repair it? or if a coachload of haircuts stops nearby and they're all rinsing Youtube, you'll be reduced to a crawl.

I'd just nip to my mams round the corner for any other internet needs.

Guess we'll have to wait and see, I'm moving out in Jan/Feb of next year so I'll be moving into a fibre area. So for the short term really.

I'm in a similar situation although I'm not getting those speeds (or even on 4g). I've moved and fibre wasn't available so instead of the 3mb I would have got on Sky I opted to tether off my phone until fibre gets installed in the exchange in September. I currently get 10mb on my phone which although does fluctuate it doesn't drop below 3mb so I cannot justify paying £30 a month to Sky.

Here's the last month usage, Three must hate me:

I have everything in my house routing through my phone including my Sab/Drone/Couch for my TV/Movies.

    Roll on September.

Btw if you want an accurate date for when fibre will be available try http://superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when Samknows told me June 30th, this site says September.

    Haha that's some tethering that!

In other news, the Wifibox is going back, I've got it home, and in my block everyone has Wifi and signals all over the show.

    It's fucking gash.

Pings over 200ms and speeds around 5-8meg, which isn't worth it for the cash.

There is probably, but I I just called Sky and got them to give me 12 months free line rental. So I'm paying £6 a month for my internet and phoneline It's only a couple of Meg so can do most streaming and such, but any larger files 3GB+ I'll save for when I'm at the parents house.

Lol bargain at least you have cheap but slow bb.
we are on fibre now 38mb but don't really see any difference to the 16mb we we're getting before.
in a 12mnth contract otherwise I would go back to 16mb in a heartbeat.

Lot of people say this, that with the increasing speeds, our Laptops and such are equipped to make the most from it.

£18 a month, I'm on the One plan on Three. Luckily I got my contract before they put a 2gb cap on tethering.

I'd be wary with ee I've gone from good signal to completely shite (had to buy a femtocell) due to their mast "optimisation" process. If they cut out any more masts theres going to be fuck all 3G let alone 4g and contention ratio will be huge.

    Thanks to blacksheep

Experienced that at home, absolute naff signal. In theory the ideas decent, nice little portable battery powered Wifi hotspot on 4G. In real time, it's pretty shit.

Yeah we had no signal on O2 at the house but a good Voda signal now we have fuck all signal on any network.

I wish I had Fibre and the openreach site just says still to be confirmed :-(

There could be two places this idea fell over - either the mobile connection is crap, or it's the wifi signal between mobile wifi device and your devices.

We can tackle both of these issues but work will be required.

What I would suggest is firstly to run a continuous ping from your laptop to the wifi device (open a cmd prompt and enter "ping 192.168.0.1 -t" without the speech marks then press enter. Note you may need to change that IP address to match the one of your device.

If you are seeing a lot of results with high latency (say over 50ms), that shows you have a shit wifi connection. If you are continually getting low latency numbers, then the wifi connection should be good.

If the wifi connection is shit, we can fix this by purchasing a router like the Draytek 2820* or Dovado 4GR* or even cobbling together a pfSense box all of which have their own pros and cons. (Note you would need to add a USB 4G stick to these devices to get mobile broadband.) Now you have wired LAN ports you can connect your machines directly to, or you can wire a decent WiFi point(s) to these LAN ports.

If the mobile connection is shit, the first thing to consider is whether the issue is network related. Best test is trying out SIMs from different providers. If you cannot get decent reception in the house but you can outside, then it may be worth considering external antennae. Problem is most of these kind of products don't have sockets for external aerials - I remember cutting USB sticks up to add an SMA connector.

    * I used to piss around with this kind of stuff a few years ago so I mentioned kit I used. Probably newer models now.
