Default Looking at options for a basic website.

Haven't been into web site making for over 15 years and it's all obviously changed to more point and click for the basics. What I'm looking for is perhaps a domain name (possibly purchased separately) and a web site building app to put together the pages etc. and then is it still a case of using FTP to upload images etc. to a host site?

Like I say, all 'new' to me now so I'm hoping you guys may have some pointers on what's good for what out there at the moment. There's no financial gain involved as in carts/ payment options and so on, it's just a way of putting together a basic web site for like minded anglers using some pictures and text.

People will slag me off for saying it but wordpress.
so bloody easy to use and modify.
has almost every feature you could ask for like galleries media players plug ins forms etc etc.
i can host it for you if you want it but you will need your own domain name.
I can give you a sub domain but it would be www.yoursite.teajunkie.co.uk

you can purchase one from a site like 123-reg.co.uk or crazydomains.com then forward it to the address I give you.

Thanks for the offer TJ, very kind mate. Just had a look on the wordpress site and it has various options. Is the free one worth going for? Like I say, bit of a hobby type thing and want to keep costs to a minimum if I can.

Would deffo be interested in the hosting if you can do that, I would look at getting a separate domain name as the cost of that seems cheap enough and then forward that to your host.

wordpress is the easiest and most user friendly way to go and with a few select plugins it will get ranked on google with your chosen keywords

My side is free u only pay for domain name.
if you want I can do that for you too but easier if you did the domain name side.

happy to set it up for you once you purchase the name.
i can give you ftp access to the server if you need it but everything you need is built into Wordpress anyway.

Cracking mate, thanks a lot. I would see no problem getting the domain name myself. Will have a word with various people and see how they feel. There is a local angling comp coming up end of August and it's being sponsored by a local shop and various angling equipment suppliers so would have links to them as they are providing prizes etc. but it's not a general 'for profit' type of set up.

    Sure no problem.
If you were making money from it then that would be different but for a personal or club website it's free

Totally agree mate. Thanks a lot and I'll get back to you when I get a general vibe on people's opinions. Will we have to pay for the wordpress side of things do you think?
