Network traffic

Good Morning,

I am teaching on a HND next year and as part of the delivery I am discussing network management tools I will be talking about:
ping
tracert
angry ip
spiceworks.

Can anyone recommend a good monitoring of all traffic software which is free which I could demonstrate. I have access to a complex network and would love ideas from the community on software which analyzes all types of traffic on a local network and creates graphs showing traffic and potential hotspots

Solarwinds NPM is great but not free. I've managed to get what I needed done running in trial mode a few times, I don't know if this would work for you.


Failing that, ntop may be useful or you may even wish to setup a netflow emitter and receiver.


Any discussion wouldn't be complete without mentioning nagios which is powerful and flexible but a pita to setup.
