Default Warning to Sandisk Ultra SSD users

I supplied a few of these 12-14 months ago and I have today had my second one so far this year fail. Having searched around it seems they are dropping like flies so backup your data asap and consider replacing with a Samsung 840 or Crucial MX100 whilst they are available for £50-60.

One model was the 60GB and one was the 120GB so looks like they will all be affected, this particular one is SDSSDH-120G-G25 manufactured 3rd April 2012. They have 3 years warranty and Sandisk should upgrade you to the Ultra Plus.

    3 Thanks given to evilsatan

Just ordered 60 of these MX100 to replace the HD's in the teacher machines at school, well actually ordered 62 need a few for *cough* testing purposes.

I'm not sure why crucial have released the m500, m550 and mx100 in such quick succession but I have ordered loads of the m500 and a few mx100 recently as the m4 was so solid and regular firmware updates. Tbh, given their price, I think I will stick to crucial and samsung from now on. Kingston hyperx are decent when on sale too.

SSD are (still) very unreliable. Fast but unreliable. If they are going to fail they just fail too, often no warning and no way of recovering any data. Anyone using a SSD and not taking regular back ups is a fool imho.

Good for schools, bootup times etc and data is all stored on sans, computers can just be re-imaged.

I've had 2 Corsair 120GB Force3's go tits up on me in the last 3 months. They were both still under warranty but I had to pay for the shipment to Holland for the RMA. I switched to Samsung a while back, it makes sense as they make all of the drive components.

Thought I had one of these but just dug the email out and it's an Extreme so fingers crossed they're not affected!

That is a problem with these though - they do just tend to die and then you're buggered without a backup!
