If you are like me and light to read the books before watching a TV series then by all means do that first. Although the story was initially made to be a TV series first, it never got the green light so was instead made in a trilogy of books.

In my opinion, as compared to the books, they got the following details bang on...

Eff - Pretty much what I expected. His acting is a little shite - as the main lead in the series they could have used a stronger character. Perhaps...Robert Carlyle or someone of equal note.
Nora - Doesnt matter who plays her, she was a weak character in the books and is the same in the series. She is all over the place acting wise.
Vassily - In the books i always pictured this guy to be a black guy, obviously still russian but of some african origins, Michael Clarke Duncan comes to mind - but that cunts dead.
Setrakian and Eichorst - I think they pretty much nailed these characters on the head. Superb acting from both of them. Especially from the episode "From Services Rendered"
Gus - Again i think they made a good choice in his character, but needs a little more depth to it other than being the token latino criminal.

Good series let down by some poor casting choices. Not complaining though. I love it.

Vampire Ninja Commando's? What cant you love about that!?

I've listened to all 3 audio books, got to say really enjoyed them. Also watched the whole of season 1 and although there are some differences from the book it was really good.

Its better to burn out than to fade away...............

I've nearly finished the last in the trilogy and as I said elsewhere the TV series is way better, the writing is pretty shabby and gets worse as it goes on feeling rushed and ill considered, the screen play has really tightened it up.
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .

    Thanks to blaggard

I really enjoyed the books too. It was a novelty for me to actually be waiting for the next one to come out and getting it on release day, and finishing them in about 2 days each

They read like screenplays from the beginning for me, due to the authors Del Toro and Hogan, so I was always expecting a set of films rather than telly

The acting is a little weak in quite a few places. I can't believe they couldn't get someone better for Eph, although I think he does improve as the show goes on

Despite the acting I loved the show, and agree that reading the books does help to flesh out the details while watching it

Will look forward to the other 2 series of this - hopefully they won't try to string it out too much, and maybe they might send Eph to acting school

    Thanks to Stinky Pete
