I bought a Corsair one a few years ago which ive had no issues with, prices have obviously changed since then as have sizes. You can compare on the corsair website different drives they do.

P.S. I assume you mean 256 Gb not 256 Mb

Anything Memory wise, I recommend Crucial (or Corsair). Something like this is very reasonable and reliable - http://www.ebuyer.com/629712-crucial...ct1024m550ssd1

Personally, I've got an OCZ 120Gb as my main OS drive (Windows 8.1) and is ample for me as I install all my programs to my RAID drive attached.
Depends on your budget or what your prepared to spend I guess.

Crucial M4 - I've never had a problem with it & it has reputation for being rock solid...

One of my OCZ drives has gone tits up. So I need to order one today. I don't want anything over 256gb.

Something like Samsung 256GB 840 Pro*

    I'm so confused.

Whatever you get, make sure it's a Crucial. M4's are now obsolete and replaced by M500s.
If it were me, I'd have got this - http://www.ebuyer.com/629700-crucial...-ct256m550ssd1

The two to go for are the Samsung 840 Evo/Pro or the Crucial MX100/M550 IMO. Regular firmware updates and the drives come directly from two of the largest memory manufacturers in the world. A third worth considering is the Kingston 4k HyperX, I have had good experiences with those too.

Avoid Sandisk, I'm sure OCZ went bust (had loads of trouble with their RAM and older SSDs, Agility 3 was good though).

I keep toying with idea of an Ssd but always seems the speed increase never outweighs the reliability or am I looking at this wrong ??

My Crucial M4 has been hammered and still performs the same as the day I got it a good few years back..

Very fast boot times and gaming performance

The 840 pros seem the one to buy at the moment.

I've had no issues with my OCZ's in the past, have had a vertex 1, 2 and 4. I have had a Crucial M4 die on me 3 days after installing but the other M4's I've got haven't skipped a beat (I have 4 of them).

OCZ were taken over by Toshiba, I had multiple Vertex 3's die on me, eventually replaced by a Vertex 4 which then proceeded to start the cycle all over again.

They eventually replaced one of those with a Vertex 451 which touch wood has been fine, I believe they've now switched to their own chipset and a lot of the original problems were with using the SandForce chipse

Do you think I should go for the 256 or 512 when it is solely a operating system and applications drive

256GB will be plenty big enough for OS and apps.
