Question Dual monitor or large monitor set up??

I've been rocking a dual monitor set up (2 x 19" HPs) for about 7 years now, and thinking about upgrading.
Given the dirt cheap prices of monitors, I'm wondering whether I should get another two or put the money into a massive or ultrawide 30"? On one hand the single monitor will make watching movies, Youtube etc.. a lot more pleasurable but then with two monitors I feel like I can be more productive.

Talk about a first world problem eh??

Personally I would go for 2 monitors for the full screen feel when playing a game or watching a movie. Can't stand having a border/window around either. Which I'm guessing you'd have to put up with having just one screen?

Why not plump for two large monitors? I had a similar dilemma recently and bought a large monitor to replace 2 smaller monitors but I do still miss having two monitors. 2 24" monitors sounds like an ideal compromise.

Only two monitors.... At work we have two Horizontal mounted monitors and a Vertical mounted monitor... It's the future!

Always multiple monitors, just feels like it is making life easier.

I'm only looking to spend the equivalent of about 3 to 400 squid.
At one point my desktop PC used to be at the centre of everything, now I spend about as much time on my iPad or Macbook.

I'm rocking a 27in iMac in work after previously using 2x20in screens on a Mac Pro. Really couldn't get used to a single screen, even though it is massive so I've hooked one of the old 20in screens to use alongside it.

    Thanks to stimpy

I was running 2 x 21 CRT's, but due to space issues I've had to let one go.

Couple of years back I was seriously considering a top end 30 and using this to replace my 21's, but then I realised windows only snaps to screen corners, doesn't let you for example treat one large screen as two smaller ones for the purpose of snapping/maximising screens so I decided to run my current set to the ground.

Hopefully by then, I'll be able to get flat screens at a sensible price that match the picture quality I've had for years.

Windows 8 is pretty good at this, drag two separate windows to opposite ends of the screen and they will automatically snap into place. However you can also use software to split your monitor into two autonomous screens.

This LG Ultrawide monitor has just such software that allows you to carve up your screen real estate into many different configs

A few years ago the first thing I did when setting up a PC was to install a million apps to make Windows the way I wanted it. Then I realised after having worked in IT support, half these apps actually caused you more trouble then they were worth, and even if you do find one that's perfect, you will set yourself up for feeling like a cripple when you use any other machine in the world.

I note our discussion has not gone to touch screens yet and I have no intention of purchasing one in the near future, so I won't be crippling my PC by installing a touch screen OS better suited to a smart phone quite yet - shame they can't bring out an official addon for 7 to handle large screens better.

I've posted the Qnix QX2710 on here before mate - I run two of those bad boys and they cost me less than 500 quid for the pair! These are the Samsung PLS panels and the quality of them is unbelievable for the price! I got one DVI-D and one which can take any input.

They're still going strong now and no dead pixels yet either which is a bonus as I opted for the cheapest ones I could find from Korea

The Korean guys are knocking out 30 inch and bigger sizes too - I'm intrigued to see what they do with the 4k panels as they would be very nice indeed!

for me i would say 2 monitors is much better.
but it really depends on what you are going to do with it.
if you are going to work with multiple applications at once then i think 2 monitors.
if you just need it to watch movies and play games then a big single monitor is better.

thats what i do with 2 monitors, i start a movie but dont make it full screen, just a little smaller then the monitor size otherwise the game starts and the monitor goes black.
make sure the game is set to same res as both monitors, i have both set to 1680 x 1050 & play games with no problem.

I have my 'Korean' screen now, which is actually a Chinese KOIOS branded one, Apple grade B screen just housed in a different case and amazingly, the casing is the best build quality I have ever seen on a monitor, made almost entirely out of thick steel, stand aint so great but it does the job.
The screen itself is outstanding, no dead pix, but quite a lot of light bleed but its only noticeable on the post screens. Resolution, as with apple 27"ers, is amazing and working with photos is so satisfying.

I'd really recommend anyone going this route, my only worry is what would i ever find to upgrade from it.
