LG G2 (camera specifically)

I think I recall a few DFr's rocking the G2.
I had my eye on it for a while, I liked the price and was particularly drawn by the "awesome" camera and the 4K mod by xdabbeb on XdaDevelopers.
I've had it about 2 weeks now and the performance and battery life are second to none. But, I think the camera is shit..
I struggle to get a non-blurred shot and the software has built in noise reduction that gives an 'oil painting' effect in anything but great light. Outside shots are good, but I'm not seeing anything better than the Galaxy S3 I came from.
The 4K video is outstanding, but the video camera itself suffers from auto-focus 'breathing' where it's constantly in and out focusing. No touch focus, do videos look desperately shit.
I'm incredibly disappointed.

Anyone experienced the same?

not used it extensively but the shots I have taken have been pretty impressive. No focus issues or anything else you mentioned but I am only using the stock app.

Yeah, I was too. I had big hopes for the camera mod and the 1600 iso, but I'm utterly deflated. I'm beginning to think I'm doing something wrong.
I do tend to take a lot of indoor shots though. Looking at one shot I took on a night out the day I got it, I'm happy with it and it looks great. But the noise reduction is still there.

have you added the google camera app to cross ref?

Yeah mate, and a number of 3rd party apps too. I think essentially they all piggyback the LG software so no core difference, unfortunately.

There is some compression at work here from imgur but you can see the noise reduction at work. It's this un-switchable process that's making everything look shit.

Just wanted to pick up on this, as I installed Xdabbeb's latest camera mod in which he has removed the auto-noise reduction which was causing so much trouble for me and it has in no small part, transformed this device's camera software.

i have a stock lg g2 and photos were pretty shit until i changed a setting

flashed cm firmware and it was worse than stock

I didn't bother with CM on this as there were a few niggles with it on my S3 that I couldn't get along with. And I particularly wanted the 4K and 1600 ISO camera mod, which only runs on stock based roms. I believe CloudyG3 is the one to go for, but I'm happy with stock for now.
