I went from server 2012 to xpenology.

    Seriously great for headerless use.
I have setup everything i need like vpn, email, plex, ftp, torrents, newsgroups, and so much more and its all simple remote access.

Piece of piss to install too.
Depends what you want to use it for but for media and storage i found it well easy.

USB 3 low profile card to make use of your external HDD.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-USB-3-0-...item2a3f24e1fe

There is a hacked bios which allows you to get the full speed out of the internal sata port. Probably not needed for your set up as you only have 3 drives but worth grabbing for future proofing.

Some more ram would be nice, but it depends what you are using it for. Don't believe the manual when it says max 8gb ram, 16gb works with no issue.

    Thanks to beerman

    Got my ram this afternoon.
Had an email telling me my hard drives and card have been dispatched. Should all be here for the weekend and then I'll get it up and running hopefully Sunday.

    Hi Guys

Came home from work today to the plesant surprise of my server being here.
I have so far got my extra RAM in it and a 160gb Hard drive in Bay 1 for the OS.
I have a version of Windows Home Server and have been trying to get it onto a flash drive to make it bootable but to no luck.
Can anyone come up with any other ways I can get the server up and running?

    Thanks in advance

Home server won't install on a flash as I'm sure you need 160gb partition for it to be happy.

When I was running Home Server 2011 I got around this by initially installing on a large enough HDD and then using Acronis to clone it to a 60gb SSD.

    Thanks to beerman

if you've got an ISO of home server google "windows DVD download tool" which will allow you to copy to a USB. Once on USB plug it in and boot

Have an ISO and tried that but wouldn't let me for whatever reason.
I'm trying it on my old mac to see if that works for me.
