So the lens arrived? nice one!

How did it feel balance wise compared to the last one?

IS was on. Feels lighter than I expected, but feels nice in the hand.

I'm still likely to use the tripod as well, just to eek out the maximum sharpness that I can get, but I will use it hand held far more often. Already I've managed a couple, which is 2 more than I have managed with the IS on the old lens!

Already seeing a difference mate. Clarity is better. Colour rendering is good. I think you have a very nice lens there.
