Default looking to buy a new HD, looking for advice

hi, I am looking to get a new HD, will install Win7 or 8.
1tb to be used mainly for converting video, was looking at a WD Black drive but read a few forums and views are mixed..
are Seagate any better these days?
so looking for some options, any advice is greatly appreciated.
    many thanks

The fastest 3.5” high-capacity desktop hard drive in this round-up is Seagate’s new 3 TB Barracuda (ST3000DM001).
It offers almost 200 MB/s sequential read performance, similar write speeds, and it runs relatively coolly thanks to
    its three-platter design.

However, Seagate didn’t design this Barracuda for 24/7 operation.

    I
f you need higher availability, you’ll want to check out Hitachi’s Deskstar 7K3000 or 7k4000, depending
on your needs. Both are five-platter designs, robust, and still fast enough
for video editing or video surveillance servers. Three terabyte hard drives are probably the best
    compromise between capacity
and cost, as 2 TB disks might not always be big enough and 4 TB models are still very expensive

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

i have had great results with Seagate stuff on my 4 NAS boxes and any problems i have had (2 HDDs died in 4 years and the NAS's are used ALOT!) were quickly resolved with a replacement unit (refurb not new)
western digital are also good and always used to use them exclusively but had better results with the seagates not dying as often as the WD i had used before

Been through so many Seagates it's not even funny and their Warranty policy is bollocks.
All my Hard Drives are now Westerrn Digital, had to return a couple through warranty, but all 11TB are still going strong today.

    Thanks to DejaVu

3TB WD red http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CYGSFPU but if you are doing a new OS as well get a SSD as well just for that and put everything else on the 3TB . Boot times with SSD well worth the money and it doesnt need to be big for OS and a few progs that need to be on the same drive. That is if you are looking to spend that much of course.

what problems did you have with their warranty mate?

ive only returned a couple of drives but i looked them up on the seagate warranty thing online, then booked it online for a return and they gave me an address to send back and within 10 days i had a replacement HDD

Only a year on External drives (with USB Enclosure) - remove the drive = same Serial number.

Western Digital External enclosures have different serial numbers to the drive - 1 year on USB External drives, 3 years if you just send the Drive back.
