Shit It's like Waiting on death row.

Most of you who know me know about my cancer if not see the worst injury pictures thread

last month I noticed a small lump probably nothing I thought.

so I didn't say anything to the wife and just gritted my teeth and carried on with things best I could.
now last week I got out the shower and my wife noticed the lump which is now approx the size of a tennis ball cut in half.
i must admit I hadn't noticed it had grown that much.
so the wife calls oncology and they get me in the next day, my doctor looks at it and walks off.
then comes back and looks again has a really good feel and says " it could be a lipoma "
but we will arrange an emergency full body ct scan and ultrasound scan.

this may take up to four weeks and I will let you know as soon as I have the results BUT........
Would it be ok if I call you personally as there's a very big chance it's going to be bad news.

now I was warned if it returns it will be in my organs and there is no treatment for my cancer so it will be time to say bye to the wife and kids and family.

everyone is telling me to stay calm and positive but it's not them facing a death sentence.
This is going to be the longest month waiting of my life!

Good luck with everything pal. Keep us updated but what I would say is put the keyboard down, walk away from any other distractions and spend every minute with them.

Also remember in the back of your mind that they often give you the worst case scenario. You might be ok, you might end up fighting it for years and still enjoy life to the full.
I will give you the example of my uncle. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer roughly 7 years ago in his late 40's. He was told he had 6 months by 'The Best'. The cancer was everywhere! it was even in his bones and caused them to break from the inside!

My cousin brought his wedding forward, has had two children and this has urged my uncle to fight each and every single day. He is still alive and kicking today. He is a lot better but it is still there and always will be. He is living life to the full, going on holidays as often as possible and taken up new hobbies. He is taking a lot of experimental drugs, he has nothing to lose, but the point is if you are prepared to fight then you give your self a chance to live longer.

Let's hope it does not boil down to this for you... The last thing you want is to know you wasted £25 on a full years VIP!

    Take it easy.
    We all make mistakes sometimes

What can any of us really say mate ? I would have said do whatever it takes to "get on" with this month. If you are in the position to go on holiday and you think you would cope then id be doing just that. A few weeks of sun recharging the old batteries and get your mind ready for whatever happens. There is a bloke over on datacave who has actually been given the bad news that he is not going to get better. His attitude is to post up the following"The good news is I'm unlikely to suffer from dementia
The bad news is I won't be around long enough to get dementia in the first place"....he has said many other things like this too. Basically he is just facing up to what is happening and trying his dam best to just get on with his life and is planning as if he wont make it....but with a positive outlook if that makes sense.
    Take it easy mate.

    Thanks to DavidF

Had a mole type thing cut out of my back, the doc said probably nothing but will test, next thing got a letter in the post saying I had cancer and a Mcmillan leaflet telling me to contact them if I need them. My wife went beserk contacted the Doc, he said it was nothing to worry about he would just have to cut a bit more out to get rid of it. I then asked why he didnt ring me and explain, he said he wasnt sure how to word the letter. I then went back and he cut more out but deeper, I have the all clear now. So I can understand your frustration, its not always doom and gloom. by the way had a lipoma cut out from under my rib, its only a lump of fat that grows with time, it does no harm.

    Thanks to Lacutas

Nobody can understand how you feel, least of all me. All I can say is regardless of the outcome, live each day to the fullest, enjoy every moment with your family and don't allow yourself to be swallowed up by despair. We are all dying, its just a matter of when?

My thoughts will be with you every day. Can't even begin to imagine what it's like for you and your family at this very worrying and emotional time. Hope it works out OK for you. (">

While mooching around the forums I've noticed your posts, I'm not well known around this forum but I'd just like to say good luck and I'm hoping it's not the big 'C' but something else.
Spend some quality time with the family because at the end of the day and if the chips are down yourself and they are all that matters.

Wow I can't imagine what it's like waiting 4 weeks to find out. You'd think they could do it sooner! I hope you can stay positive as it makes the world of difference. My boss at works wife has been through a similar thing with it spreading and her positive attitude to live and fight meant she got to spend as much time as possible with her loved ones and she didn't give up. I hope it all works out for you and your family!

Good luck mate. I really do hope it's good news.

My mum was diagnosed 2 years ago with cancer of the oesophagus, sadly she died in January.

In November last year I was having trouble eating, everything was getting stuck in my throat which with my mums diagnosis I jumped to the worst conclusion.
I had a endoscopy and the doc said the worst thing he could have, he found a lump in my oesophagus of which he had taken some biopsies. This cemented my conclusion that I too had cancer of the oesophagus. I had to wait for 3 weeks before I got the all clear, after getting back to my car I cried like a big girl.
