just re-reading through this. just to clarify, your getting an ip address from the router but you cant ping it?
have you tried reinstalling the drivers?
i admit im a bit stumped

Perhaps time to start from the top.
As Peter said, your getting an IP Address, but no Internet connectivity.
Is the router seeing it? Have a look in the DHCP Table in the router settings.
Definitely something amiss with XP seeing as 'buntus working fine.

OK here we go i have checked the figures on ubuntu settings and they match windows and even hardwired in windows it will not connect if its possible for you i have team viewer installed on Ubuntu would you be able to access anything in the windows section that might give us some clues i even removed port forwarding settings just in case still no joy

I can get windows to repair then it picks up all the router info as in list i added but i get timed out when i try to ping router
Even tried setting manually
