Digital Extremes' online third-person shooter Warframe is now available to download on Xbox One. An "MMO-lite" and the first free-to-play title released through the ID@Xbox Program, it casts you as an ancient warrior equipped with a fancy mech suit, and is built around co-op missions for groups of four. "They were called Tenno," reads an imposing blurb. "Warriors of blade and gun - Masters of the Warframe armor. Those that survived the old war were left drifting among the ruins. Now they are needed once more.
"The Grineer, with their vast armies, are spreading throughout the solar system. A call echoes across the stars summoning the Tenno to an ancient place. They summon you. Come Tenno, you must join the war."
"Warframe has been a labor of love for our team for over a decade," observes Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes, in a release. "We believed in this concept when no one else did and it's so satisfying to see the incredible reception it's received from the gaming world - and now with the Xbox One launch it will just keep getting better."
Players can buy in-game currency to unlock certain gear, including new Warframes, weapons and consumables.
The game also supports second screen functionality through Xbox SmartGlass for Windows Phone, iOS and Android. According to the release, "this companion app provides players with pertinent real-time game information and stats such as Alerts to critical missions and the Codex, which provides key data on all the Warframes, weapons, Mods and more to help players strategize their play."
