    Help White Laptop Screen.

I have a laptop in that when I turn it on, the screen is completely white.

If I push bottom part of the bezel with some force the screen flicks to what it's meant to be. I then let go and it fades to white again quite quickly.

Is this repairable or should I just replace it? It's a shame because the screen itself is in perfect condition and the laptop has been extremely well looked after.

Sounds like it might be a loose connection.

Its not a Samsung is it?

No, it's a Packard Bell with an LG Display. I know 100% is a loose connection, but has got to be inside the screen itself. I think I'm going to strip the screen anyway. Nothing to lose.

You could try taking the bezel off, working out where the pressure point needs to be and see if you can pad it out as a DIY fix. Or as you have nothing to lose you could disassemble and reassemble the LCD.

At the bottom on the left hand side about a 3rd in from the edge is my guess ;-)

Apologies if I sounded like a patronising f**k in my first reply, I'm not very well at the moment, doped up on pain killers and not getting enough sleep.

I wondered if it was a Samsung as some of the laptops and a lot of the Netbooks had issues with the cable going to the LCD becoming loose despite it being partially stuck to the back of the LCD with some adhesive. People dropping them never helped! Occasionally it was a chip that needed resoldering on the board but more often than not it was just the cable [and thinking about it I've still got an N150 somewhere in bits].

I'll be interested to know how you get on and sorry for being a moody old tw@t.

The actual screen is a AU Optronics B156XW02 V.2 and is about to go under the knife (screwdriver sets).

I'll take pictures of my progress step by step just for shits and giggles and post them up.
I'm not bothered if I repair it or not as I've ordered a replacement, but be interesting to see if it's repairable below the surface.

I've also got a Laptop in now that has an annoying flicker unless a bit of pressure is applied. Why can't people just smash screens like normal...!

For those that are interested in seeing the inner workings of an LED Laptop screen and how far I get with this, here it all is (as I understand it - which could be wrong of course).

To take this screen apart, I found one tiny screw. Yup, just one. The rest is double sided tape or thin plastic sticky stuff. I might need some sellotape and some 3M strips to put this back right, but for now, it's only an experiment to sere if it's worth it. I have in the past, dismantled an LCD screen that was coffee spilt and had stains between the inner sheets and managed to clean that all up OK and the screen is still in the missus laptop today.

    1. One LED Screen - in great cosmetic condition.

    2. Do Not Touch tape - TOUCHED. Uh Oh.

    3. Unscrewed the one small screw and peeled off the metal LED Encasement from the top - very carefully.

    4. Lots of jiggery pokery to seperate the screen from the screen sheet innards (yeah, technical terms and everything!).

    5. Finished off with the ribbon cables that are an integrated part of the glass screen itself.
(Please ignore my coving - although it is a great job and feel free to enjoy my New York sky line picture, complete with Twin Towers).

    Now I'm stuck.
Shall I just gently warm up the ribbons and connections to make sure they are connected or is this thing now just ready for the bin?

    I'd go for the "bin"
but are you sure it's not the cable?

I've fitted tubes to lcd's but never done a led, it actually looks easier to change,
Not worth the time fitting tubes as screens are cheap, I did a few on tills though as the screens were £300.
