Run ipconfig and post the results with the IP/URL you use to connect to the router sounds like it has been given a static IP address which does not match your router.

I would try setting up static ip, loads of guides online. You will want to try something like 192.168.1.147 as your ip, 255.255.255.0 should be your subnet mask, 192.168.1.1 is the gateway and DNS.

Other than that have you checked the date and time is correct on the machine? Does a wired connection work?

Failing that hat you can run a XP repair using the install cd or even format as a last resort.

    Thanks to evilsatan

have you updated the network card driver or any other driver recently?
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

you seem to be getting an ip address from the wireless router, have you tried manually releasing your ip address and renewing it? try pinging the google dns server (8.8.8.8)

sorry if im teaching you to suck eggs but to manually release the ip address do the following:
    1. go to start>run> type in cmd and hit enter
    2. when the command prompt window opens type in: ipconfig /renew. this will force your wireless adaptor to renew the lease on its ip address (it may be the same address but it will check in with the router)
    3. after doing this type in ipconfig /all. this should show your ip address, default gateway etc on your adaptors
    4. if this works and you are showing as having an ip address that isnt a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (windows self assigns this when it cant find a DHCP server in this case your router) then type in ping 8.8.8.8
    5. if you can ping the ip but are still having issues with navigating to ip addresses possibly a dns issue, try resetting your router. shouldnt make a difference really but it never hurts.

    Thanks to pete7247

    Lets start from the top.

    1. Dual Boot system with Ubuntu & Windows XP. Ubuntu Internet works. Windows XP internet doesn't?
    2. When in Windows, you can find your router wirelessly, it connects - or tries to connect and fails?
    3. It then... errors? connects with limited connectivity, dumps the connection completely without warning? dumps connection with warning? do you get a 164.x.x.x IP Address?
    4. You've looked in Device Manager for the actual name/model of your wireless card (what is it?) and searched google for the latest driver?

To set a static IP address open Command Prompt and type (or copy & paste):

netsh interface ipv4 set address “Wireless Network Connection” static 192.168.1.147 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
    net stop netman
    net start netman

This sets your IP static using the settings above that evilsatan suggested.
See if the connection is reset and connect to wifi again.

That is dual boot mate, you have the choice of OS at boot time rather than using VM inside a host OS I think setting static IP is the step we need confirmation on, there are many causes of non-connectivity, static IP checks rules a lot of them out.
