Default Best way to implement VPN for all traffic?

I was just looking for a bit of advice as I am toying with VPNs. I imagined the way to do it would be to use a DD-WRT router as a gateway that goes in between my ADSL router and the switch. If I wanted WLAN traffic to use a VPN I would need this to connect to the DD-WRT AP rather than the ADSL router.

I have a Draytek 2850Vn which uses built in VoIP which I need to be stable, so I don't think I can set up the VPN in this router as I would have to direct all traffic through the VPN.

Am I right that a DD-WRT router between the WAN router and switch is the best method?

    Cheers

You seem to have sussed it out.

I would have said to use your Draytek but I am not certain whether VOIP traffic would go through this - may be worth contacting Draytek?

So you could then use a DD-WRT router as mentioned, but then you may suffer dual NAT issues.

Yep, if you had two routers, you would only go through the VPN if you connected via cable or WiFi to the DDWRT router.

However if you plan on tunnelling all your traffic, I would get any router you intend to use and do a few tests on the bench before actually using it. VPN throughput on most routers is lower than normal throughput and many routers don't come close to their claimed VPN performance in the real world.

    Thanks to Over Carl

I will speak to Draytek and go from there, ideally it would be an all-in-one solution which is why I splashed out on this model originally.
