I've dropped my M7 38 times, drop kicked it through a window and went volcano fishing with it, the cunt won't die.

Only trouble is I don't look fucking cool when I whip it out down the pub, it doesn't have 2 year old specs and it didn't cost £700.

Guess I'm a failure.

I totally agree that Apple should have made it stronger (hence me pointing out the lack of a inner frame) but nevertheless, I lol when people say "I sat down and my phone bent - I demand you give me another".

The only way you could strengthen something that thin is to sandwich a sheet of glass and one of aluminium between a honeycomb structure... that won't bend but unfortunately there would be no room for any electronics, battery etc... Hence my argument that anyone who expects a phone that thin not to bend under extreme pressure is simply deluded as it defies physics. Apple are good, but not that good. The only other solution would be to make the phone out of a high tensile metal that doesn't deform under stress but then you have issues of weight etc..

So you think it should be OK to put a phone in your back pocket and sit down on the fucker? Because I don't, irrespective of the make.

But then again I have something called common sense and value my purchases. I don't care whether a phone says it's super strong and can withstand a nuclear attack - I wouldn't sit down with it my pocket, especially my back pocket.

or, the could give it the curved back of the HTC m8 and gain 2mm of aluminium. A thin design is great, but if, for the sake of 2mm it becomes fragile and impractical, its a bad design choice.

APPLE has admitted its new iPhone will bend if you are determined to bend it.
The company has been inundated with complaints from iPhone customers, but stressed it was impossible to make something that does not, ultimately, bend.
A spokesman said: “If you don’t want it to bend then don’t fucking sit on it. How’s about that?
“And, actually, if it didn’t bend then the screen might crack and you’d end up with tiny shards of glass up your back passage. That’s no picnic.”

Maybe your onto something. They do have different grades of aluminium, depending on what it's alloyed with and whether it's tempered or not.
Based on the pictures though it does seem to be a weak spot in the design where there is less metal.

To be honest this isn't the first iPhone to bend,

I used to work at an Apple Store, on the Genius bar and we used to see iPhone 5 and 5s' coming in which where bent at the point where the volume buttons where. I also seem to remember report of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and a Sony phone doing exactly the same thing. This is not a new "issue" to occur with phones.

Its just being blown out of proportion and the media are jumping on anything they can to take a swipe at Apple. Apple sold 10million phones and apparently have only had 9 reports of phones bending so far, Im sure this number will rise but not to the levels of them needing to do anything about it!

Being objective, there is definitely some merit in what apple and the fanbois are saying.....and I want to be pragmatic about this......but I can't because it's far too much fun seeing apple get a good bashing

Indeed they do. An automotive grade of silicon-manganese aluminium, such as LM24 or LM25 would have been the choice for this as it's suited to thinner components and wouldn't have bent quite so easily. Someone in the design department at Apple isn't a materials engineer.
