    Default Foscams/CCTV

Im wanting to set up some sort of home CCTV system. Being a complete novice at any of this, I know a few of you have the FOSCAM stuff. Basically all I need is 2 internal camera's, and 1 external, which has the ability to record to a drive and can be viewable from an IOS device.

I was going to go for this for the internal cams - Foscam FI8918W Wireless/Wired Pan/Tilt IP Camera with 8m Night Vision and 2.8mm Lens - Black (Pack of 2): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

But as for external cams, recording and ios viewing I havent a feckin clue.

    What do you all use?

sweet. is there an option to record up motion detection for the external cam? i dont want to record continuously.

As for recording. I have a REVO downstairs which works as my HTPC. I wonder if I could record to a drive connected VIA usb to the revo?

    Hi
I have mine set up to email my live bursts of photos of any motion detected around my house - got set up so they hit my iphone as soon as it happens- but not those cameras, I am sticking with Onvif compatible ones these days and the ones with a couple of larger Array IR's

IP cams can record to any network drive so you should be able to share an external drive via your revo.

in terms of space required for recording - what size of drive will I need?

My revo currently runs XBMC upfront, with sabnzbd and sickbeard running in the background and does this pretty well. Do you reckon it will be able to handle recording to a networked drive aswell?

    Try this for storage calculations:

What OS is the Revo running? Windows 7? Should be ok but proof will be in the testing.

    Thanks to evilsatan

Store snapshots offsite on something like Dropbox in case they lift the lot.

I got the 'Foscam FI19821W as wanted high ish resolution, the colour quality is a bit crap (could probably be tweaked) and depending on what you use to view it there can be a bit of a lag but overall pretty decent. Got it set up to turn on when my phone isn't on the home network.
