    Photos Shield bug

A shield bug on the leaf of a peony, during a damp afternoon rainy day. There was still a bit of rain falling but too light to show in the images, though I could see the droplets clearly on the material of the softbox and the top of the camera by the time I had taken a few shots.

Yeah - I've seen some folks using them, but they can produce hotspots if not made just right. Take your time building it and getting the layers right.

Paul ... is your softbox on a speedlite mounted on the camera or freestanding mate?

I hate to be reliant on ambient light being strong enough and that in turn
    affects my DOF.

I have a ringlight/flash I don't use much but think that should have a diffuser?

    great shots as always!

Supe, I work two ways actually. (Ian I think (dpSparhawk) uses his flash mounted all the time).

I sometimes (like these here) put the flash on the hotshoe, but often I put a remote trigger on the camera which my flashgun, handheld, picks up, allowing me to radically move the flash from positions directly in lime with the lens, to either the left or right.

    Paul.
