Help Need a Static IP sim card

    Hi all,
In the process of fitting an alarm system to my new house and I might have wen a bit OTT, the gsm/coms unit needs a static IP sim so I can remotely monitor/arm/disarm and listen/speak to any intruder through a data connection(could be fun), I've done a quick google and they're not far off a mobile contract !! It'll be the same with trackers etc so do any of you know how to get one without the monthly £20+ without included data !
    Any pointers greatly appreciated

The GSM module in your alarm is for backup/redundancy only. You should have an Ethernet port or wireless card in your alarm, connected to your router. You can then use a static IP or as Grrrd said, Dyndns dependant on your internet service provider.

This texecom GSM comms unit needs a static SIM so I can set/unset upload/download and monitor it, network wasn't an option, too easy to get around where I am

I had a problem with something like this before. I think the problem was I was working for a building site where they had an office using a SIM card for their broadband. They had an IPcam that needed to record a time lapse of the project but they wouldn't pay for an FTP account to send the images to (all down to a pre-approved budget with the previous guy who couldn't work out a solution for them). I had tried to forward services and use dyndns to allow for remote control but the IP was shared between multiple sims apparently. In the end I set it up to email a snapshot every hour to an email address set up for this purpose and then used thunderbird to download and a plugin to extract all attachments.

    Thanks to evilsatan
